Your Questions Answered
Everything you need to know before you start.
We know choosing worktops is a big decision — and you'll have questions. Here are the ones we get asked most. If yours isn't here, just call the showroom on 023 9238 1360. We're happy to chat.
Getting Started
How do I get a quote?
The easiest way is to visit our Portsmouth showroom — you can see samples, talk through your project, and often get a ballpark on the spot. You can also call us on 023 9238 1360, email sales@in2stone.co.uk, or fill out our online quote form. We'll usually come back to you within 24 hours.
What areas do you cover?
We're based in Portsmouth, Hampshire and cover the whole of Portsmouth and surrounding areas including Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Waterlooville, Chichester, and Southampton. Our full installation service extends across Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey, Dorset and Berkshire — though the reach depends on the specific type of project, so please contact us to discuss your requirements. For customers anywhere else in the UK, we offer a supply and fabrication service — we can fabricate from a supplied template or supply the stone directly.
Do I need an appointment to visit the showroom?
No appointment needed — just drop in. We're open Monday to Friday, 10am–4pm and Saturdays 10am–2pm. We have a wide variety of stone samples on display.
How much do stone worktops cost?
Every project is different, so the cost depends on the material you choose, the size of your kitchen, edge profile, and the complexity of the job. Rather than quoting generic price ranges, we provide free, no-obligation quotes tailored to your exact requirements — with transparent pricing and no hidden extras. Visit our showroom or get in touch and we'll put together a detailed quotation.
Choosing Your Stone
What's the difference between quartz and granite?
Quartz is engineered stone — it's made from natural quartz crystals bound with resin. It's non-porous, doesn't need sealing, and comes in a huge range of consistent colours and patterns. Granite is natural stone quarried from the earth — every slab is unique. It's incredibly hard-wearing but does need periodic sealing. Both are excellent choices; it comes down to whether you want consistency (quartz) or one-of-a-kind character (granite).
What is Dekton and why would I choose it?
Dekton is an ultra-compact sintered stone made by Cosentino. It's virtually indestructible — resistant to heat, scratches, stains, and UV light. It's perfect for heavy-use kitchens, outdoor areas, and around hobs where you might put hot pans straight down. It's more expensive than standard quartz but the performance is exceptional.
Can I take samples home before deciding?
Absolutely. We're happy for you to borrow samples and see how they look in your actual kitchen — against your cabinets, in your lighting. It's the best way to be sure. Just let us know which ones you'd like to take and we'll sort it out.
What brands do you stock?
We're proud stockists of Silestone, Dekton, Caesarstone, Neolith, Compac, CRL Stone, and several others. We carry the same premium brands you'll find in the big London showrooms — but without the overheads that double the price.
The Process
How long does the whole process take?
Once your cabinets are installed and we've templated, we aim to have your worktops fabricated and installed within 10 working days. We'll give you a clear timeline at the quoting stage.
Do my cabinets need to be installed before you can template?
Yes — we need to template against your actual installed cabinets, not plans. This ensures exact measurements that account for any adjustments made during the kitchen fit. Your kitchen fitter will confirm when everything is ready, and then we come in.
What is hand templating and why do you do it?
We template by hand in your home using physical templates placed on your cabinets. This means you can see exactly how your worktops will look and have your say on cut-outs, edges, and details before we cut anything. It takes a bit longer than laser templating, but we believe it gives a better result — and our customers appreciate the input.
Do you subcontract any of the work?
No. Everything is done by our own team — templating, fabrication, and installation. The people you meet in the showroom are the same people who'll be in your kitchen. No middlemen, no subcontractors, no strangers turning up on fitting day.
Pricing & Payments
What's included in the quoted price?
Everything. Your quote covers templating, fabrication, delivery, installation, sink cut-outs, and edge profiling. We also offer drainer grooves and recess drainers as optional extras. We don't add surprises on the day. The price we agree is the price you pay.
Are your quotes fixed?
Yes. Once we've agreed a quote for a defined scope of work, that price is fixed. If you change your mind about materials or add extra work, we'll discuss any cost implications before proceeding — but we never surprise you with hidden costs.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, we ask for a deposit to confirm your order and secure your slot in our schedule. The balance is due on completion. We'll explain the payment terms clearly at the quoting stage — there's nothing buried in the small print.
How do your prices compare to larger companies?
We carry the same premium brands — Silestone, Dekton, Caesarstone — but without the overheads of a chain operation. We don't have a marketing department or a sales team on commission. That means you get the same quality stone and expert installation, but at a genuinely competitive price.
Installation & Aftercare
How long does installation take?
Most kitchen worktop installations are completed in a single day. Larger or more complex projects (very large islands, multiple rooms, intricate cut-outs) may take two days. We'll always let you know in advance.
Will there be much mess?
Very little. We lay protective sheeting, work carefully, and do a thorough clean-up afterwards. We leave your kitchen cleaner than we found it — that's not just a line, it's how we've always worked.
What guarantees do you offer?
We provide a 5-year workmanship guarantee covering all our own installation work — every joint, every cut, every detail. This covers work carried out by our team; it does not cover the underlying structure or cabinetry installed by others. On top of that, every worktop also carries the manufacturer's own warranty — typically between 10 and 25 years depending on the brand. Your investment is well protected.
How do I look after my worktops?
It depends on the material. Quartz is very low-maintenance — just wipe with warm soapy water. Granite and marble benefit from periodic sealing (we'll show you how). Dekton needs virtually nothing. We'll give you care instructions specific to your stone when we install.
What if something goes wrong years later?
Just call us. Seriously — we don't disappear after the job. If anything ever needs attention, whether it's within warranty or not, pick up the phone and we'll help. That's the benefit of working with a small team who take pride in their reputation.
