The Stone

See the natural beauty of Imperial White up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this granite unique.

Style:

Speckled Polished Fine Grain

Indian granite from Tamil Nadu with a cool light grey base and fine dark speckles under a mirror polish.

Imperial White granite is a refined, light-toned natural stone quarried from the ancient geological formations of Tamil Nadu in southern India. The slab presents a cool light grey base uniformly covered in a dense, granular pattern of very fine dark grey to near-black speckles, interspersed with tiny flecks of lighter grey. There is no veining or directional movement — instead, the texture is pervasive and consistent, creating a clean, orderly surface that reads as pale and calm from across a room but reveals real mineral detail at close range. The highly polished finish adds crisp reflections and a sense of depth.

Geologically, this is true granite — an intrusive igneous rock with high quartz content that gives it a Mohs hardness of 6–7. That hardness translates directly to kitchen performance: Imperial White resists scratches from daily use, handles hot pans without flinching, and with annual sealing maintains strong resistance to staining. Unlike lighter marbles, granite's low acid sensitivity means spills of lemon juice, wine, or vinegar will not etch the surface.

In2Stone recommends Imperial White for homeowners who want the brightness of a white worktop with the toughness of granite. It works beautifully in both classic and contemporary kitchens — pairing naturally with navy or forest green cabinetry for contrast, or with pale grey units for a calm, tonal scheme. Each slab carries the subtle mineral variations that only genuine natural stone provides, giving your kitchen a surface that is authentically unique.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Imperial White

Is Imperial White granite actually white?
Imperial White reads as a cool light grey rather than pure white. The surface is densely covered with fine dark grey to near-black speckles on a pale grey base, giving it a calm, consistent appearance. Under its high-gloss polished finish, the overall effect is bright and clean without being stark white.
How does Imperial White granite compare to white marble for a kitchen?
Imperial White offers significant practical advantages over marble in a kitchen. Granite is much harder (Mohs 6–7 versus 3–5 for marble), far less porous, and critically, not sensitive to acids — so lemon juice, wine, and vinegar will not etch the surface. Marble requires more frequent sealing and greater care with acidic foods and drinks.
Does Imperial White granite stain easily?
When properly sealed, Imperial White has good stain resistance. Its relatively low porosity means spills sit on the surface rather than being absorbed. Annual sealing with a quality impregnating sealer is the key — and between sealings, simply blot any oil, wine, or coffee spills promptly rather than letting them sit.
Where in India is Imperial White granite quarried?
Imperial White is quarried in Tamil Nadu, in southern India. This region is one of India's most significant granite-producing areas, with geological formations that yield a wide range of light-coloured granites prized for their consistency and fine-grained mineral structure.
What edge profiles are available for Imperial White granite worktops?
In2Stone offers a range of edge profiles for granite worktops including pencil round, bullnose, ogee, chamfered, and square. For Imperial White, the pencil round and bullnose profiles work particularly well — they soften the worktop edge and complement the stone's calm, refined character. We can advise on the best profile for your kitchen design during the templating visit.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
