Sparkle Polished Fine Grain

Deep black Indian granite scattered with fine silvery flecks that shimmer like a night sky.

Jet Black granite takes its name literally — a deep, uniform black surface quarried from southern India that carries an arresting visual quality. Fine, randomly scattered flecks of bright white and silver are densely embedded throughout the dark matrix, creating a subtle shimmering effect that catches light from every angle. There is no veining, no directional movement — just a consistent field of dark stone illuminated by countless tiny mineral points. The highly polished finish amplifies this effect, giving the surface significant reflectivity and a granular, sparkling texture that sets it apart from the flat uniformity of engineered black surfaces.

The silvery flecks visible in Jet Black are likely mica and feldspar crystals reflecting light within the granite's dense igneous matrix. This stone carries the full performance credentials of Indian granite — Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent resistance to heat and scratching, and a tight mineral structure that keeps porosity low. The highly polished surface is also the easiest to clean, as its smooth profile leaves fewer places for dirt and residue to accumulate compared to textured finishes.

In2Stone recommends Jet Black for kitchens where the worktop needs to make a confident visual impact without any pattern or colour variation distracting from the design. It works powerfully with white lacquered cabinetry for maximum contrast, or with charcoal units and stainless steel appliances for a cohesive dark scheme. The sparkle effect becomes especially striking under recessed downlights or pendant lighting positioned over a kitchen island.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Jet Black

How does Jet Black granite differ from Absolute Black?
Absolute Black typically presents as a virtually uniform, pattern-free surface with minimal visible mineral grain. Jet Black, by contrast, is densely scattered with fine white and silvery flecks that create a visible shimmer — particularly under direct light. Both are deep black Indian granites, but Jet Black has noticeably more surface sparkle and visual texture.
What causes the sparkle in Jet Black granite?
The sparkling effect comes from mica and feldspar crystals embedded within the granite's mineral matrix. When the stone is polished, these tiny crystalline grains are exposed at the surface and reflect light, creating the characteristic shimmer. This is an entirely natural feature — each crystal has been forming for millions of years within the stone.
Does Jet Black granite need more maintenance than lighter stones?
No — the maintenance routine is identical for all granite regardless of colour. Annual sealing and daily cleaning with warm water and pH-neutral soap is all that is required. Dark polished granite does show water spots and fingerprints more visibly than lighter or textured alternatives, so keeping a microfibre cloth handy for quick wipe-downs is helpful.
Where is Jet Black granite quarried?
Jet Black is quarried in southern India, a region that produces many of the world's most sought-after black granites and gabbros. The geological formations in this part of the Indian subcontinent — among the oldest continental crust on Earth — yield dense, fine-grained dark stones with exceptional structural integrity.
Will Jet Black granite look good under downlights?
Exceptionally so. The fine silvery flecks in Jet Black are designed by nature to catch light, and under focused downlighting or pendant fixtures, the sparkling effect becomes noticeably more pronounced. If you are planning a kitchen island with Jet Black, positioning lights to illuminate the surface directly will bring the stone's mineral character to life.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
