The Stone

See the natural beauty of Kashmir Lime up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this granite unique.

Style:

Speckled Polished Fine Grain

Pale Indian granite with dense charcoal and grey speckling across a cool off-white polished surface.

Kashmir Lime granite presents a surprisingly cool, understated character that differs markedly from its warmer Kashmir Gold cousin. Quarried in India, this stone offers a very pale, almost off-white light grey base with subtle warm undertones, covered in a dense, random speckling pattern of fine to medium-sized particles. The dominant specks are dark charcoal-grey to black, interspersed with lighter grey tones and occasional larger irregular inclusions that add textural interest. The highly polished finish gives the surface significant reflectivity, making the pale base feel bright and clean.

This is a granite that achieves visual impact through subtlety rather than drama. The busy yet understated speckling creates a surface that reads as calm from across a room but reveals genuine geological complexity at arm's length — every mineral grain a record of the stone's formation deep within the Earth's crust. The Mohs 6–7 hardness ensures strong scratch resistance, the dense crystalline structure keeps porosity low, and the stone's igneous origins give it the heat tolerance that makes granite the natural worktop material of choice for serious cooks.

In2Stone recommends Kashmir Lime for kitchens where a light, neutral worktop is needed without the clinical flatness of an engineered white surface. It works particularly well with mid-tone grey cabinetry, soft blue-green painted units, or pale timber in ash or birch. The speckling pattern provides enough visual activity to prevent the worktop from looking blank, while the overall tone remains light enough to keep even smaller kitchens feeling open and spacious.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Kashmir Lime

Why is it called Kashmir Lime if the stone is grey?
Stone trade names can be misleading. Kashmir Lime's name references the Kashmir granite family, but the stone itself presents as a pale off-white to light grey with charcoal speckling — no green or lime tones are visible in the slab. Names in the natural stone trade are commercial designations and do not always reflect the stone's actual appearance.
How does Kashmir Lime compare to Kashmir Gold?
They are very different in character. Kashmir Gold is warm, golden-toned, and earthy. Kashmir Lime is cool, pale, and more restrained — closer to a neutral grey-white palette. Both are Indian granites with the same structural properties, but they create completely different moods in a kitchen. Choose Gold for warmth, Lime for cool restraint.
Is Kashmir Lime practical for a kitchen with children?
Very much so. Granite's Mohs 6–7 hardness makes it one of the toughest worktop materials available — it handles the rigours of family life without complaint. The dense speckling pattern also disguises minor marks, crumbs, and everyday wear effectively. With annual sealing, the pale surface maintains strong stain resistance.
Where does Kashmir Lime granite come from?
Kashmir Lime is quarried in India, though the specific regional provenance is less precisely documented than some other Indian granites. India is one of the world's largest granite-producing countries, with quarries across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh yielding a vast range of colours and patterns.
What sealer is best for pale granite like Kashmir Lime?
A quality impregnating stone sealer is ideal — it penetrates below the surface to provide protection from within, without leaving a visible film that could alter the stone's natural appearance. Apply annually, and test in an inconspicuous area first. For pale granites, prompt blotting of dark spills between sealings is also important.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
