The Stone

See the natural beauty of Labradorite Bianca up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this granite unique.

Style:

Sparkle Natural Polished

Norwegian larvikite from Larvik — pale off-white base scattered with dark angular flecks and iridescent blue hints.

Labradorite Bianca is the lighter counterpart to the dark Labrador Antique, quarried from the same ancient Larvik pluton in Vestfold county, Norway. Where its sibling presents deep brown warmth, Bianca offers a cool, pale off-white base intricately infused with a dense, random pattern of irregular angular flecks and patches ranging from dark charcoal to black. Areas of lighter cool blue-grey drift through the composition, and occasional subtle iridescent blue elements — the signature labradorescence of this feldspar-rich stone — add fleeting moments of optical depth that no photograph fully captures.

Like all larvikites, Labradorite Bianca is geologically classified as a monzonite or augite syenite rather than a true granite, though it is commercially traded within the granite family. Its mineral composition gives it exceptional density and hardness — comparable to or exceeding true granite — and the tight crystal structure keeps porosity at the very lowest end of the natural stone spectrum. The polished finish accentuates the contrast between the pale base and the dark mineral inclusions, creating a surface with genuine drama and depth.

In2Stone recommends Labradorite Bianca for kitchens where a light worktop is wanted but plain white feels too simple. The dark angular flecks provide structural visual interest, the blue-grey tones add cool sophistication, and the occasional iridescent flash gives the stone a hidden quality that reveals itself under changing light. It pairs well with pale grey or white cabinetry for a clean, contemporary scheme, or with charcoal units for a more contrasted look.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Labradorite Bianca

What is the relationship between Labradorite Bianca and Labrador Antique?
Both are larvikites from the Larvik region of Norway. Labrador Antique has a deep brown base, while Bianca has a pale off-white base — they are different colour grades from the same geological formation. Both display the characteristic labradorescent feldspar crystals, though in Bianca, the effect is more subtle against the lighter background.
Does Labradorite Bianca contain actual labradorite?
Larvikite contains a type of feldspar called ternary feldspar that exhibits labradorescence — the same optical phenomenon found in labradorite. While technically a different mineral species, the visual effect is similar: internal light refraction creates fleeting flashes of blue or green within certain crystal grains.
Is Labradorite Bianca harder than regular granite?
Larvikites are comparable in hardness to true granite, typically registering Mohs 6–7. Some larvikite specimens are actually denser than average granite due to their high feldspar content and tight crystal structure. For kitchen purposes, the practical performance — scratch resistance, heat tolerance, durability — is fully equivalent.
Where exactly is Labradorite Bianca quarried?
It comes from the Larvik region of Vestfold county in southeastern Norway. The Larvik pluton is a unique geological formation stretching approximately 50 kilometres, and it is the only known source of larvikite in the world. These quarries have been producing stone commercially since the late 1800s.
How does Labradorite Bianca handle kitchen stains?
Very well when properly sealed. Larvikite's tight mineral structure gives it naturally low porosity, and annual sealing with a quality impregnating sealer provides strong ongoing stain resistance. The pale base colour means dark spills should be blotted promptly, but the busy pattern of dark mineral flecks helps disguise minor marks between cleanings.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
