The Stone

Veined Natural Polished

Brazilian granite from Bahia with flowing olive-grey veining across a warm pale grey polished surface.

Mont Blanc granite takes its name from the highest peak in the Alps, but this stone originates from far warmer terrain — the Chapada Diamantina region of Bahia state in northeastern Brazil. The slab presents a pale warm grey base with a very subtle fine granular texture, traversed by flowing veining in a distinctive muted olive-grey to brownish green-grey. These veins sweep diagonally and horizontally, ranging from fine thread-like lines to broader wispy patterns, while occasional bolder white veins cut through to add contrast and depth.

The olive-grey veining gives Mont Blanc a colour character quite different from most granites — there is a quiet, natural warmth to it that sits between cool grey and warm beige without committing fully to either. The highly polished finish brings out the reflective quality of the mineral surface and accentuates the movement of the veining across the slab. Beneath this refined exterior, the stone delivers granite's core strengths: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and a dense crystalline structure that responds well to annual sealing.

In2Stone recommends Mont Blanc for kitchens where understated sophistication is the design ambition. The muted olive-grey palette bridges warm and cool schemes with unusual versatility — it works alongside pale timber, sage-painted cabinets, warm mushroom tones, or clean white units. For clients who want visible veining without the maintenance concerns of marble, Mont Blanc offers a genuinely compelling alternative.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Mont Blanc

What colour is the veining in Mont Blanc granite?
The veining is a distinctive muted olive-grey to brownish green-grey — an unusual colour for granite that gives Mont Blanc its unique character. It differs from the typical grey, black, or gold veining found in most granites, instead offering a more natural, earthy quality that bridges warm and cool colour palettes.
Does Mont Blanc granite look like marble?
The flowing veined pattern shares some visual similarities with marble, but the colour palette and granular mineral texture are distinctly granite. Mont Blanc offers the movement and elegance that attracts people to marble, but with granite's significantly superior hardness, heat resistance, and acid resistance — making it far more practical for kitchen use.
Where is Chapada Diamantina?
Chapada Diamantina is a mountainous region in Bahia state, northeastern Brazil. Named for the diamonds historically mined there, the area's ancient geological formations produce a range of distinctive natural stones. The quarries operate in a landscape of tabletop mountains, deep valleys, and rivers — geological features that attest to the immense forces that created these stones.
What kitchen colours complement Mont Blanc granite?
The muted olive-grey veining gives Mont Blanc unusual versatility. It pairs beautifully with sage or olive-painted cabinetry for a tonal scheme, works well alongside white or cream units for a classic look, and sits comfortably with warm mushroom or stone-coloured finishes. Avoid very cool blues or stark whites that might clash with the stone's warm undertones.
How durable is Mont Blanc granite for kitchen use?
Extremely durable. As a true granite, Mont Blanc registers Mohs 6–7 on the hardness scale — significantly harder than marble and most other natural stones. It handles hot pans without concern, resists scratching from normal kitchen use, and maintains strong stain resistance when sealed annually. It is designed to last a lifetime.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
