Sparkle Polished Natural

Angolan granite with a deep charcoal base, dark blue undertones, and fine crystalline sparkle throughout.

Nero Angola granite originates from the quarries near Lubango in Angola's Huíla Province — a high-altitude plateau region in southwestern Africa with ancient geological formations. The slab presents a deep charcoal black base with a very subtle dark blue undertone that distinguishes it from purely neutral black granites. A dense mottled pattern of dark blue-grey and scattered lighter cool grey specks covers the surface, interspersed with fine thread-like white crystalline flecks and short random mineral lines. The highly polished finish reveals this mineral detail and creates a surface that appears subtly alive under changing light.

What sets Nero Angola apart from other dark granites is the blue undertone — a chromatic warmth within the darkness that gives the stone a richer, more complex character than flat black alternatives. The crystalline flecks catch light at different angles, producing a gentle sparkle that adds depth without appearing flashy. Geologically, the stone carries the density and hardness expected of a deep-seated igneous rock: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and very low porosity that maintains strong stain resistance under annual sealing.

In2Stone recommends Nero Angola for clients who want a dark worktop with more depth and interest than a plain black surface. The blue undertone works exceptionally well alongside cool-toned schemes — grey painted cabinets, pale blue walls, or polished chrome hardware. It also pairs beautifully with warm metallics like brushed brass, where the contrast between warm metal and cool stone creates a sophisticated tension.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Nero Angola

What gives Nero Angola granite its blue undertone?
The dark blue undertone comes from the specific mineral composition of the stone — likely the presence of labradorite feldspar or other plagioclase minerals that create subtle colour shifts within the predominantly dark matrix. This mineral chemistry is specific to the Lubango quarries in Angola's Huíla Province and is not replicated in dark granites from other regions.
Does the sparkle in Nero Angola show in all lighting?
The crystalline sparkle is most visible under directional light — spotlights, pendant lights, or natural light from a window. In diffused or ambient lighting, the sparkle is more subtle and the stone reads as a richly textured dark surface. We recommend viewing a sample under your kitchen's actual lighting conditions to ensure the effect meets your expectations.
Where is Lubango in Angola?
Lubango is the capital of Huíla Province in southwestern Angola, situated on a high-altitude plateau at approximately 1,760 metres above sea level. The region's ancient geological formations produce distinctive dark stones with mineral characteristics specific to this part of the African continent.
How does Nero Angola compare to Nero Assoluto or Absolute Black?
Nero Angola has more visual complexity than Nero Assoluto or Absolute Black — the blue undertone, the crystalline flecks, and the mottled speckling give it a richer, more dynamic surface. If you want a completely uniform, flat black worktop, those alternatives may suit better. If you want a dark surface with subtle depth and character, Nero Angola is the stronger choice.
Is Nero Angola granite suitable for a large kitchen island?
Excellent choice. The dark base colour with subtle mineral detail scales well across large surfaces without becoming monotonous. The crystalline sparkle catches light across the expanse of an island, adding visual interest that prevents the surface from appearing flat. Pair with lighter cabinetry around the perimeter to balance the dark mass of the island.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
