Speckled Natural Polished

Indian white granite from Tamil Nadu with swirling grey speckling and scattered burgundy mineral clusters.

New Kashmir White granite is quarried from the Melur area near Madurai in Tamil Nadu, South India — a region that has supplied the international stone trade with pale granites for generations. The slab presents a light greyish-white base densely permeated with a complex granular pattern of swirling blotches and fine speckles in cool light to mid-grey. Scattered clusters of muted reddish-brown and burgundy minerals add warmth to the predominantly cool palette, creating a surface that has both movement and chromatic depth. The polished finish is highly reflective, accentuating every mineral grain and speckle.

New Kashmir White represents the updated version of one of India's most established granite families. The Kashmir White name has been used for decades across the stone trade, but quarry conditions and mineral compositions evolve, and 'New Kashmir White' reflects a specific variation with its own distinct character — typically showing a more dynamic, busier pattern than older Kashmir White selections. The geological fundamentals remain constant: this is a true granite with high quartz content, delivering Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and a dense crystalline structure that responds well to annual sealing.

In2Stone recommends New Kashmir White for kitchens where a light, lively worktop is needed with genuine natural stone character. The busy granular pattern conceals daily wear and minor marks effectively, and the predominantly cool palette works naturally alongside white, grey, and pale blue colour schemes. The scattered burgundy mineral clusters add just enough warmth to prevent the stone from feeling cold or clinical.

Frequently Asked

Questions About New Kashmir White

What is the difference between Kashmir White and New Kashmir White granite?
New Kashmir White is a specific variation within the broader Kashmir White granite family. It typically shows a more dynamic, busier pattern with more pronounced grey swirling and slightly more visible reddish-brown mineral clusters than traditional Kashmir White. Both come from the same geological region of South India and share the same fundamental performance properties.
What are the reddish-brown specks in New Kashmir White?
The reddish-brown and burgundy clusters are garnet and biotite mica minerals — natural mineral inclusions that formed during the granite's crystallisation deep within the Earth's crust. These minerals are firmly bonded within the stone's crystal structure and will not come loose or deteriorate over time. They add a distinctive warm accent to the predominantly cool grey-white palette.
Where is Melur near Madurai?
Melur is a quarrying town located approximately 35 kilometres northeast of Madurai city in Tamil Nadu, South India. The region sits on ancient Precambrian rock formations and has been a significant source of white and pale granites for the international stone market for many decades.
Is New Kashmir White granite busy enough to hide marks?
Yes — the dense, complex speckling and granular pattern is excellent at concealing everyday marks, crumbs, light staining, and minor wear. This is one of the practical advantages of choosing a busily patterned pale granite over a plain or minimally marked white surface.
What kitchen styles suit New Kashmir White granite?
The light grey-white palette works well in traditional, transitional, and contemporary kitchens alike. It pairs naturally with white Shaker cabinetry, sits comfortably alongside pale grey painted units, and complements both chrome and brushed nickel hardware. The burgundy mineral accents mean it also works with warm-toned schemes featuring timber or copper accents.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
