The Stone

Veined Natural Polished

Indian granite from Madurai with bold multi-tonal veining and reddish-brown mineral detail on a pale base.

New Kashmir White I is a distinct selection within the Kashmir White granite family, quarried from the Melur area near Madurai in Tamil Nadu. While it shares the same geological origin as New Kashmir White, this particular selection presents noticeably different visual characteristics — a very light grey to off-white base almost entirely covered by a denser, more intricate pattern of fine to medium-thick veins and granular speckles. Cool light grey, warmer taupe-grey, and distinct reddish-brown flecks create a chaotic, multi-directional movement across the entire surface, resulting in a bolder, more visually dramatic stone.

The distinction between New Kashmir White and New Kashmir White I is typical of the natural stone world — granites from the same quarry region can present substantially different visual characters depending on the specific block, the depth of extraction, and the precise mineral composition of that section of the geological formation. New Kashmir White I leans toward a more veined, dramatic expression with stronger tonal contrasts and more prominent reddish-brown mineral clusters. The polished finish produces a strong sheen that reveals the granular composition beneath the smooth exterior.

In2Stone carries both variants because they suit different design ambitions. New Kashmir White I is the choice for clients who want more visual impact from their pale granite — more movement, more tonal variation, more drama. It works particularly well in larger kitchens where the complex pattern has room to unfold across extended worktop runs. Pair with simple white or light grey cabinetry to let the stone's multi-tonal complexity take the lead.

Frequently Asked

Questions About New Kashmir White I

How does New Kashmir White I differ from New Kashmir White?
New Kashmir White I presents a bolder, more dramatic version of the Kashmir White character. It has denser veining, stronger tonal contrasts between the grey, taupe, and reddish-brown elements, and a more complex overall pattern. While New Kashmir White is busily speckled, the I variant pushes further into veined territory with more visual intensity.
Why do granite names have Roman numeral variants?
Roman numeral designations in granite naming typically indicate different visual selections from the same quarrying region. The same geological formation can produce stones with noticeably different patterns and colour balances depending on which block is extracted and from what depth. Numbering them allows fabricators and clients to specify exactly which visual character they want.
Is New Kashmir White I suitable for a small kitchen?
It can work, but its bold, complex pattern will be more visually dominant in a smaller space. In compact kitchens, a busier stone can make the space feel more intense. If your kitchen is small, consider whether you want the worktop to be the statement piece — if so, New Kashmir White I delivers. If you prefer a calmer backdrop, the standard New Kashmir White may suit better.
What creates the reddish-brown detail in this granite?
The reddish-brown flecks and clusters are natural mineral inclusions — primarily garnet and biotite mica — that formed during the granite's crystallisation within the Earth's crust. These minerals are integral to the stone's crystal structure and are permanently bonded; they will not deteriorate or come loose during normal kitchen use.
Does New Kashmir White I need different maintenance?
No — the maintenance routine is identical to all granite. Annual sealing with a quality impregnating stone sealer, daily cleaning with warm water and pH-neutral soap, and prompt blotting of dark liquid spills. The busy pattern is an advantage for maintenance, as it conceals minor marks and everyday wear very effectively.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
