The Stone

Speckled Natural Polished

Indian green granite with a deep mottled olive-grey surface and bold chunky mineral patterning throughout.

Olive Green granite is quarried from the Rajasthan or South India quarrying regions — areas where specific geological conditions have produced granites with distinctive green colouration derived from minerals like chlorite, epidote, and green feldspar. The slab presents a deep muted green-grey base heavily interspersed with lighter greenish-grey and darker charcoal-green tones, creating a mottled, layered appearance. Rather than veining, the surface features a dense random granular pattern with irregular chunky patches of varying hues, producing a busy but cohesive movement across the entire slab.

Green granite is relatively uncommon compared to the blacks, whites, and golds that dominate the market, and Olive Green's particular shade — a muted, earthy olive rather than a bright or vivid green — gives it a grounded, natural quality. It feels organic and warm in a way that cooler green stones do not. The polished finish brings out a visible granular texture of fine to small irregular speckles, confirming the stone's geological authenticity. Performance is standard granite: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and the kind of dense crystalline structure that responds well to annual sealing.

In2Stone recommends Olive Green for kitchens where natural, earthy tones are the design priority. It works beautifully alongside warm timber cabinetry and natural materials — oak, walnut, rattan, linen — creating a scheme that feels connected to the natural world. It also pairs unexpectedly well with warm brass or bronze hardware, where the green and gold tones complement each other.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Olive Green

What gives Olive Green granite its colour?
The green colouration comes from specific minerals within the granite's composition — likely chlorite, epidote, and green-tinted feldspar. These minerals form during the stone's crystallisation under particular temperature and pressure conditions, producing the muted olive-green tones rather than a bright or vivid green.
Is green granite rare?
Green granite is less common than black, white, or gold varieties. While it is not exceptionally rare, good quality olive-toned granites from India are not produced in the same volumes as the more standard colours. The specific shade and mineral balance of each quarry's output gives each green granite its own distinct character.
Does Olive Green granite change colour over time?
No. Granite is naturally UV-stable and will not fade, darken, or shift colour with age or sunlight exposure. The olive-green tones will remain consistent throughout the stone's lifetime. Annual sealing maintains the surface appearance and prevents any staining that might temporarily alter the perceived colour.
What kitchen colours complement green granite?
Olive Green works naturally with earth tones — warm timber cabinetry, mushroom and stone-coloured walls, terracotta tiles, and natural material accessories. Warm metals like brushed brass and bronze complement beautifully. For a more contemporary approach, pair with charcoal or dark grey units. Avoid very cool blues or stark whites that may clash with the stone's warm green character.
Where is Olive Green granite quarried?
Olive Green comes from India — either the Rajasthan quarrying regions in the northwest or the South Indian quarrying belt. Both areas produce green-toned granites, though the specific shade and mineral composition vary between locations. India has been a major source of green granite for the international market for many decades.

"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
