The Stone

See the natural beauty of Pepperino Dark up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this granite unique.

Style:

Fine Grain Natural Polished

Chinese dark granite from Fujian with a dense uniform speckle of charcoal, grey, and muted beige minerals.

Pepperino Dark granite is quarried from Fujian Province in southeastern China — one of the country's most significant stone-producing regions. The slab presents a deep charcoal base heavily adorned with a dense, uniform granular pattern of small irregular flecks in varying shades of dark to mid-grey, punctuated by occasional subtle specks of lighter grey and warm muted beige. There is no veining, no directional movement — just a consistently busy yet entirely uniform speckled texture that reads as a richly textured dark surface.

The name accurately describes the stone's character — a fine-grained peppery speckling across a dark base. This type of granite occupies an important niche: darker and more substantial than mid-toned speckled stones, but with enough mineral texture to avoid the fingerprint-prone flatness of absolute black granite. Fujian Province produces large volumes of consistent granite, and Pepperino Dark benefits from this reliability — the pattern and colour balance remain consistent across batches, making it straightforward to source for multi-slab projects. Performance is standard granite: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and low porosity that responds well to annual sealing.

In2Stone recommends Pepperino Dark as a practical, no-nonsense dark granite for clients who want a worktop that works quietly and reliably. The uniform speckling conceals daily wear effectively, the dark base colour anchors any kitchen scheme, and the consistent pattern removes the anxiety of slab-to-slab variation. It pairs naturally with white, grey, or timber cabinetry and complements virtually any hardware finish.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Pepperino Dark

Where is Pepperino Dark granite quarried?
Pepperino Dark comes from Fujian Province in southeastern China — one of the country's largest and most established stone-producing regions. Fujian quarries produce a wide range of granites and are known for consistent quality and reliable supply volumes.
How does Pepperino Dark compare to Impala Black or Nero Assoluto?
Pepperino Dark sits between Impala Black and absolute black granites in terms of visual character. It has more visible, warmer speckling than Impala Black — the muted beige flecks add a slightly warmer undertone. Compared to Nero Assoluto, it has significantly more visible texture. Choose Pepperino Dark if you want a dark base with warm peppery detail.
Is Pepperino Dark granite consistent between slabs?
Yes — this is one of its practical strengths. The uniform, non-directional speckling pattern remains highly consistent from slab to slab, making it straightforward to source matching material for large installations or multi-section layouts. There is less anxiety about slab variation compared to more dramatically patterned granites.
Does the dark colour show fingerprints?
Less than an absolute black surface would. The dense speckling breaks up fingerprints and water marks visually, making them far less noticeable than on a flat, uniform dark surface. Regular wiping with a microfibre cloth keeps the surface looking pristine between cleaning sessions.
What kitchen styles suit Pepperino Dark?
Pepperino Dark's neutral, understated character makes it versatile across styles — contemporary handleless kitchens, transitional schemes, even traditional designs with dark timber or painted cabinetry. It works as a quiet, reliable anchor rather than a statement piece, allowing other design elements to take the focus.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
