The Stone

Veined Natural Polished

Indian granite from Tamil Nadu with swirling brown-and-beige veining on a warm terracotta base.

Rosewood granite comes from the Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu in South India — a region where ancient Precambrian shield rocks produce warm-toned stones with rich, organic character. The slab presents a warm reddish-brown base reminiscent of terracotta, densely interspersed with very fine granular speckling of dark brown, off-white, and translucent crystalline particles. Swirling and undulating veins move diagonally and organically across the surface in dark grey-brown and sandy beige, with subtle hints of deep olive green within the darker concentrations. The result is a surface with genuine warmth, movement, and earthy complexity.

The name Rosewood is well chosen — the stone's warm reddish-brown tones genuinely evoke the rich colour of rosewood timber, creating a surface that feels inherently warm and organic. The swirling veins add a dynamic quality that prevents the warm base from feeling flat, and the subtle olive-green traces within the darker areas add a chromatic complexity rarely found in warm-toned granites. This is a stone with character that emerges over time — details you discover weeks and months after installation. Performance is standard granite: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and the dense crystalline structure that responds well to annual sealing.

In2Stone recommends Rosewood for clients who want their kitchen to feel warm, natural, and distinctly earthy. It pairs beautifully with cream and off-white cabinetry, works alongside natural timber and woven textures, and complements hardware in brushed bronze, antique brass, or oil-rubbed finishes. Avoid pairing with cool grey or stark white schemes that might clash with the stone's warm personality.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Rosewood

What colour is Rosewood granite?
The base is a warm reddish-brown reminiscent of terracotta or rosewood timber. The veining runs in dark grey-brown and sandy beige with subtle olive-green traces in the darker areas. The overall effect is warm, earthy, and organic — quite distinct from the cooler greys and whites that dominate the granite market.
Where is Pudukkottai in India?
Pudukkottai is a district in Tamil Nadu, South India, situated on ancient Precambrian shield rock formations. The region produces a range of warm-toned granites with rich mineral compositions, and has been supplying the international stone trade for many decades.
Will a warm-toned granite date my kitchen?
Warm natural stone has been used in architecture for millennia and never truly goes out of style. Rosewood's earthy tones feel timeless rather than trendy — they connect to a long tradition of natural materials in domestic interiors. The key is to pair it with classic elements rather than very fashion-specific finishes.
What is the green tint in the veining?
The subtle olive-green traces within the darker vein concentrations come from chlorite or epidote minerals — accessory minerals that occasionally appear in granites alongside the dominant feldspar, quartz, and mica. They add a subtle chromatic complexity that enriches the stone's overall character.
How does Rosewood granite handle kitchen use?
Extremely well. Despite its warm, timber-like appearance, it delivers all of granite's toughness — Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and strong stain resistance when sealed annually. The warm colour and veined pattern are excellent at concealing everyday marks and wear.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
