The Stone

Veined Natural Polished

Indian granite from Tamil Nadu with flowing rose-and-terracotta banding across a warm creamy beige polished base.

Shivakasi Ivory granite is quarried from the Sivakasi area of Tamil Nadu in South India — a region with ancient Precambrian formations that produce some of the most warmly coloured granites in the international market. The slab presents a dominant warm creamy beige base intricately patterned with undulating bands that flow predominantly horizontally. These bands range from light dusty rose and muted terracotta to richer reddish-brown and darker warm brown-grey, creating a flowing movement across the surface. Fine dark grey-to-black speckling and granular crystalline texture are visible throughout, confirming the stone's genuine geological composition.

The name captures the stone's character well — 'Ivory' describes the warm creamy base, while the Shivakasi designation ties it to a specific place and geological context. What makes this granite distinctive is its colour range — the rose, terracotta, and reddish-brown bands give it a warmth and complexity that purely cream or beige stones lack. The flowing horizontal movement adds visual direction and rhythm, preventing the busy pattern from feeling chaotic. Performance is standard for South Indian granite: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and the dense crystalline structure that responds well to annual sealing.

In2Stone recommends Shivakasi Ivory for clients who want a warm, characterful worktop with genuine natural stone presence. The earthy palette works beautifully in traditional, country, and warm contemporary kitchens alongside cream, off-white, and warm-toned cabinetry. It pairs naturally with terracotta tiles, warm timber floors, and hardware in brushed gold or antique brass. The busy, flowing pattern is excellent at concealing daily kitchen wear.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Shivakasi Ivory

What colours are in Shivakasi Ivory granite?
The base is warm creamy beige, patterned with flowing bands in dusty rose, muted terracotta, richer reddish-brown, and darker warm brown-grey. Fine dark speckling throughout adds depth. The overall palette is warm and earthy — there are no cool grey or blue tones.
Where is Sivakasi in India?
Sivakasi is a city in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, South India. The surrounding region sits on ancient Precambrian rock formations that produce a range of warmly coloured granites. Sivakasi itself is also known for its fireworks and printing industries, but the surrounding countryside is significant for stone quarrying.
Is Shivakasi Ivory a busy-looking granite?
Yes — the flowing rose-and-terracotta banding creates a busy, dynamic surface with strong visual movement. It is not a calm or minimal stone. This busyness is a practical advantage, as it conceals everyday marks and wear effectively, but it also means the stone will be a prominent visual element in the kitchen.
What kitchen styles suit Shivakasi Ivory?
The warm earthy palette suits traditional, country, farmhouse, and warm contemporary kitchens. It works alongside cream and off-white painted cabinetry, warm timber, terracotta tiles, and natural material accessories. Avoid very cool or minimal modern schemes where the busy warm pattern might feel out of place.
Does the flowing pattern affect slab matching?
The horizontal banding direction and colour intensity can vary between slabs, so personal slab selection is recommended for multi-slab installations. Your fabricator can help match adjacent slabs for the most cohesive visual flow across joints.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
