Silk

Silk granite comes from Brazil — and its name captures the smooth, fluid quality of the veining that defines its character. The slab presents a very dark charcoal base appearing almost black, distinguished by moderate to dense veining in off-white and light grey with a subtle warm light beige tone. The veins flow predominantly in diagonal and somewhat linear patterns, ranging from fine thread-like lines to occasional broader streaks. The polished finish is clearly reflective, creating a sophisticated interplay between the dark mirror-like base and the lighter mineral veins.

Silk occupies an elegant middle ground in the dark granite spectrum — more dramatic than plain or speckled dark stones, but more refined than the wild exotics with their chaotic banding and intense colour shifts. The diagonal flow direction gives the stone a sense of confident movement, and the vein thickness variation — from delicate threads to broader sweeps — creates a layered quality that rewards close observation. Despite its refined appearance, Silk performs as standard granite: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and the low porosity that maintains reliable stain resistance under annual sealing.

The diagonal veining creates an elongating effect that works particularly well in galley kitchens and along long worktop runs.
