The Stone

See the natural beauty of Alaska White Marble up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this marble unique.

A complex, mineral-rich white marble with scattered dark charcoal and olive-green inclusions that create a surface alive with geological texture.

Alaska White Marble is a stone of compelling complexity. Quarried in Western Turkey, it presents a predominantly white base that is densely populated with scattered dark charcoal-grey, black, and olive-green mineral inclusions — creating a surface that feels authentically geological, as though you are looking directly into the earth's metamorphic history. Unlike the clean, minimal aesthetic of marbles such as Afyon White or Carrara, Alaska White embraces visual density. The scattered dark minerals across the white ground create a surface that is practical as well as beautiful — minor marks and everyday wear blend naturally into the stone's varied texture, making it a surprisingly forgiving choice for active kitchens. As with all natural marbles, regular sealing every six to twelve months keeps the surface protected, and pH-neutral cleaners are essential to preserve the stone's integrity. In2stone's craftsmen appreciate the unique challenges of working with textured marbles, ensuring precise templating and seamless joins that let the stone's natural character take centre stage.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Alaska White Marble

How does Alaska White Marble differ from Alaska White Granite?
Despite sharing a name, these are completely different stones. Alaska White Marble is a metamorphic calcite rock quarried in Turkey, with a white base and dark mineral inclusions. Alaska White Granite is an igneous rock quarried in Rajasthan, India, with a similar colour palette but far greater hardness and durability. When ordering, always confirm with your supplier which stone type you are receiving — the care requirements and performance characteristics differ significantly.
Is Alaska White Marble a practical choice for busy kitchens?
Alaska White Marble is actually one of the more practical marble options for kitchens. Its densely textured surface with scattered dark mineral inclusions naturally masks minor marks, scratches, and everyday wear far better than pristine white marbles like Carrara or Statuario. It still requires regular sealing and pH-neutral care, but its complex natural patterning means it maintains its appearance under daily use more gracefully.
What finishes are available for Alaska White Marble?
Alaska White Marble is available in polished, honed, and leathered finishes. The polished finish maximises colour contrast and mineral sparkle. Honed provides a matte surface that reduces visibility of etching. Leathered gives a textured, tactile feel that further disguises wear. For kitchen worktops, we often recommend honed or leathered for their practicality — though the polished finish is beautiful for bathroom vanities and feature applications.
What causes the dark mineral inclusions in Alaska White Marble?
The dark charcoal-grey, black, and olive-green inclusions in Alaska White Marble are composed of various accessory minerals — including graphite, pyrite, chlorite, and iron-bearing minerals — that were present in the original limestone before metamorphism. During the heat and pressure that transformed the limestone into marble, these minerals were recrystallised into the patterns you see in the finished stone today.
Can Alaska White Marble be used for outdoor applications?
While marble is UV-stable and will not fade in sunlight, Alaska White Marble is not ideal for outdoor use in the UK climate. The combination of rain, frost cycles, and temperature extremes can cause the porous calcite to deteriorate over time. It is best reserved for interior applications — kitchen worktops, bathroom vanities, splashbacks, and feature walls — where it can be properly maintained and protected from the elements.
