The Stone

See the natural beauty of Bardiglio up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this marble unique.

A sophisticated Italian grey marble from the Apuan Alps with flowing white and silver diagonal veining

Bardiglio is one of Italy's most important and sophisticated grey marbles, quarried from the Apuan Alps in the Seravezza and Stazzema areas of Tuscany — the same mountain range that produces Carrara and Calacatta. Its rich blue-grey base is swept with flowing diagonal veins of bright white and silver that cascade elegantly across the polished surface, creating excellent visual movement and refined contrast. With a highly compact crystalline structure that polishes exceptionally well, Bardiglio has been used in Italian architecture for centuries. Its versatile, contemporary aesthetic works equally well in traditional and modern kitchens, offering a moody sophistication that lighter marbles cannot achieve. Like all marble, it requires regular sealing and careful handling around acidic substances, but its dense structure makes it slightly more resilient than many softer white varieties.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Bardiglio

Where is Bardiglio marble quarried?
Bardiglio marble is quarried from the Apuan Alps in the Seravezza and Stazzema areas of Tuscany, Italy — the same legendary mountain range that produces Carrara and Calacatta. It has been used in Italian architecture for centuries.
What makes Bardiglio marble different from Carrara?
While both come from the same Apuan Alps, Bardiglio features a rich blue-grey base with white veining — essentially the reverse palette of Carrara's white base with grey veining. Bardiglio offers moody sophistication where Carrara provides bright elegance.
Is Bardiglio marble suitable for kitchen worktops?
Yes, Bardiglio is well-suited for kitchen worktops. Its highly compact crystalline structure makes it slightly more resilient than many softer white marbles. Like all marble, it requires regular sealing and careful handling around acidic substances.
What colour variations does Bardiglio marble come in?
Bardiglio ranges from medium blue-grey to deeper charcoal-grey, always with flowing white and silver diagonal veining. Related varieties include Bardiglio Nuvolato (cloud-patterned) and Bardiglio Imperiale (darker, more intense). Each quarry block produces slightly different tonal variations.
How should Bardiglio marble worktops be maintained?
Bardiglio requires sealing every 6-12 months with a quality stone sealant. Clean daily with pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild dish soap and warm water. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon-based products) and always wipe spills immediately to prevent etching.
