The Stone

See the natural beauty of Gioia up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this marble unique.

A classic Italian marble from Tuscany, where a bright white base is brought to life by an abundant, feathery network of flowing grey veins.

Gioia is a beautifully classic Italian marble, quarried from the heart of Tuscany, offering a truly expressive statement for your home. Its bright, luminous white base provides a pristine canvas for an abundant network of fine, flowing grey veins. This creates a wonderfully active, feathery pattern that moves across the polished surface, with a dense, directional quality that flows diagonally, giving it a soft, wispy elegance. The result is beautiful visual movement and depth, making Gioia a striking and dynamic choice.

Like all marble, Gioia is a non-foliated metamorphic rock, formed when limestone or dolostone undergoes intense heat and pressure deep within the earth. This process causes calcite crystals to recrystallise into a dense, interlocking mosaic, giving marble its distinctive texture. The captivating grey veining you see in Gioia is created by accessory minerals, such as graphite, captured within the calcite matrix during its geological formation, adding unique character to each slab unearthed from its Tuscan home.

We love Gioia for its timeless beauty, making it a perfect fit for traditional luxury worktops in kitchens and bathrooms, or as a stunning splashback or feature wall. While marble brings unparalleled elegance, we believe in honest guidance: it's a naturally porous stone with a Mohs hardness of 3-5, meaning it benefits from regular sealing and careful use around acids to maintain its pristine look. Our passion for stone means we'll guide you on how to best care for your Gioia, ensuring its unique charm continues to inspire for years to come.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Gioia

What does Gioia marble look like?
Gioia marble features a bright, luminous white base, beautifully adorned with an abundant network of fine, flowing grey veins. These veins create a wonderfully active, feathery pattern that moves diagonally across the polished surface, giving it a soft, wispy quality and impressive visual depth.
What kind of kitchen or bathroom design does Gioia marble suit?
With its classic Italian character and expressive veining, Gioia marble is an exceptional choice for traditional luxury worktops. Its bright white and dramatic grey palette also allows it to integrate beautifully into more contemporary designs, providing a sophisticated focal point against both light and dark cabinetry.
How durable is marble like Gioia, and what care does it require?
Marble has a Mohs hardness of 3-5, making it softer than granite or quartz, and it is naturally porous and acid-sensitive. To protect your Gioia worktops from etching and staining, we recommend regular sealing and promptly wiping up spills, especially acidic liquids like lemon juice or wine. With proper care, its beauty will last a lifetime.
Where does Gioia marble originate from?
Gioia marble is quarried from the prestigious region of Tuscany, Italy. This area is renowned for its high-quality marble deposits, where limestone underwent millions of years of natural metamorphism, resulting in the beautiful calcite-rich stone with its characteristic veining.
How does Gioia marble compare to engineered stones like quartz?
While engineered stones offer consistent patterns and high durability, Gioia marble provides unmatched natural beauty, unique veining, and a luxurious feel that only natural stone can. It requires more careful maintenance due to its porosity and acid sensitivity, but many homeowners find its timeless elegance and authentic character well worth the care.
