This captivating stone is quarried from the historic region of Nafpaktos, known in ancient times as Lepanto, in West Greece. Geologically, Rosso Lepanto is a non-foliated metamorphic rock, formed when limestone or dolostone undergoes intense heat and pressure, causing its calcite crystals to recrystallize into the dense material we love. Its profound dark red and burgundy tones come from the natural presence of iron oxide minerals within the calcite matrix, creating the rich colour that contrasts so vividly with the sharp white veining.
