The Stone

See the natural beauty of Silk Georgette up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this marble unique.

From the Burdur region of Turkey, Silk Georgette is a wonderfully linear marble where delicate ivory and beige tones are graced with fine, straight horizontal strata of gentle grey and cream, evoking a soothing, fabric-like elegance.

Silk Georgette is a wonderfully linear marble, celebrated for its sumptuously elegant character. We find a delicate, pale ivory to light beige base, beautifully graced by exceptionally soft, fine, straight horizontal strata and bands of gentle grey and cream. This creates a beautifully uniform, gracefully structured layered veining, evoking a uniquely soothing, fabric-like or fine wood-grain effect across the surface. Its fabulously clean, highly sophisticated linear character makes it a beautifully calming choice for serene luxury worktops.

Quarried from the historic Burdur region of Turkey, Silk Georgette is a testament to nature's artistry as a non-foliated metamorphic rock. Formed from limestone or dolostone under immense heat and pressure, its primary mineral, calcite, recrystallises into a dense, interlocking mosaic. The delicate pale ivory to light beige base, alongside the gentle grey and cream tones, comes from subtle accessory minerals and impurities present during its geological formation, giving each slab its unique, soft coloration.

For us at In2Stone, Silk Georgette is a truly sophisticated material, perfect for creating serene kitchen worktops, elegant bathroom vanities, or dramatic feature walls. While renowned for its beauty, as with all marble, it’s a material that thrives with a little care and attention. Its Mohs hardness of 3-5 means it's softer than granite or quartzite, so we recommend using chopping boards and protecting it from sharp impacts. Marble is also highly sensitive to acids, which can etch its surface, and its porosity requires regular sealing to maintain its stain resistance. With our passion for craftsmanship and honest approach, we'll guide you through the best practices to keep your Silk Georgette worktops looking their best for decades.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Silk Georgette

What makes Silk Georgette's appearance unique?
Silk Georgette is distinguished by its delicate pale ivory to light beige base, marked by exceptionally soft, fine, straight horizontal strata and bands of gentle grey and cream. This creates a beautifully uniform, layered veining that gives it a unique fabric-like or fine wood-grain effect and a highly sophisticated linear character.
What design styles does Silk Georgette marble complement best?
Its calming, linear character and soft, warm tones make Silk Georgette ideal for serene luxury kitchens and contemporary minimalist designs. It pairs beautifully with natural wood cabinetry for a harmonious feel or with darker tones for a striking, sophisticated contrast. Its fabric-like texture brings an understated elegance to any space.
How should I care for my Silk Georgette marble worktops?
As a marble, Silk Georgette is a relatively softer stone (Mohs 3-5) and is sensitive to acids. We recommend regular sealing to maintain its stain resistance, wiping spills promptly, and using chopping boards to protect against scratches and etching. Gentle, pH-neutral cleaners are always best to preserve its finish.
Where does Silk Georgette marble come from and how is it formed?
Silk Georgette marble is quarried from the Burdur region of Turkey. It's a non-foliated metamorphic rock formed when limestone or dolostone undergoes intense heat and pressure, causing the calcite crystals to recrystallise into the dense, interlocking structure we see. Its unique colour and delicate veining come from the specific mineral impurities present during its geological formation in this region.
Is Silk Georgette a good choice for a busy family kitchen?
Silk Georgette offers unparalleled elegance, but like all marble, it requires mindful care in a busy kitchen. While it's beautiful, its softness and acid sensitivity mean it's more prone to scratching and etching than harder materials like quartzite or granite. If you appreciate the natural patina marble develops over time, or are prepared for diligent care, it's a stunning choice. For those seeking extreme durability with a similar aesthetic, we can discuss engineered alternatives.
