The Stone

See the natural beauty of Tundra Grey up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this marble unique.

Tundra Grey is a sophisticated Turkish marble from Burdur, where soft, uniform grey tones are gently traced with diffuse cloud-like formations and subtle white crystalline veining.

Tundra Grey is a wonderfully sophisticated Turkish marble, cherished for its beautifully soft, wonderfully uniform pale silver-grey to light dove-grey base. The exceptionally smooth, refined surface is gently characterised by incredibly diffuse, sweeping lighter grey cloud-like formations that drift across the stone. We also see very subtle, incredibly fine, hair-thin white crystalline veining softly scattered throughout, adding a delicate touch without overpowering its gorgeously muted and fabulously tranquil character. This stone embodies a perfectly balanced elegance, making it an ideal choice for contemporary luxury worktops.

Quarried from the Burdur region of Turkey, Tundra Grey originates from limestone that has undergone immense natural heat and pressure over millions of years, transforming into this dense, interlocking mosaic of calcite crystals. The consistent pale grey tones, with their subtle variations, speak to the precise mineral composition and geological conditions unique to its Turkish source. This natural metamorphic process is what gives marble its characteristic 'sugary' crystalline texture, making each slab a unique piece of Earth's artistry. It’s a stone born of the Earth, shaped by time.

We believe Tundra Grey is an excellent choice for creating spaces that feel both elegant and serene, whether in a kitchen, bathroom, or as a striking feature wall. As with all natural marble, it brings a luxurious feel, but does require a little mindful care. Its inherent calcite composition means it’s softer than some alternatives and reactive to acids, so we always recommend regular sealing and being mindful of spills from things like lemon juice or wine. Our skilled craftsmen apply their passion and expertise, from precise hand-templating to seamless installation, ensuring your Tundra Grey worktops not only look exquisite but are also installed with the honesty and care In2Stone stands for, delivering luxury results at honest prices.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Tundra Grey

What gives Tundra Grey marble its unique visual appeal?
Tundra Grey is celebrated for its incredibly soft and uniform pale silver-grey to light dove-grey base. Its refined surface features diffuse, sweeping lighter grey cloud-like formations and very subtle, hair-thin white crystalline veining scattered throughout, creating a tranquil and sophisticated look.
What kitchen styles or colour palettes pair best with Tundra Grey?
Tundra Grey's muted, tranquil character makes it incredibly versatile. It beautifully complements modern minimalist designs, Scandinavian aesthetics, and elegant contemporary spaces. Pair it with dark cabinetry for striking contrast, or light woods and whites for a serene, cohesive feel.
How durable is Tundra Grey marble, and what care does it require?
Marble, including Tundra Grey, is a softer natural stone (Mohs hardness 3-5) and is sensitive to acids, which can etch its surface. We recommend regular sealing to enhance its stain resistance and advise promptly wiping up spills, especially from acidic liquids like citrus juice or vinegar, to maintain its pristine beauty.
Where does Tundra Grey marble come from, and how is it formed?
Tundra Grey marble is quarried from the Burdur region of Turkey. It's a metamorphic rock, formed when limestone undergoes intense heat and pressure deep within the Earth, causing its calcite crystals to recrystallize into the dense, interlocking structure we admire today.
How does Tundra Grey compare to other grey worktop materials like granite or quartz?
Tundra Grey offers a unique soft, diffused aesthetic that differs from the more granular patterns of many granites or the engineered consistency of quartz. While it requires more diligent care than granite or quartz due to its porosity and acid sensitivity, it provides an unparalleled natural luxury and tranquil elegance that many homeowners desire.
