The Stone

See the natural beauty of Black Marquina up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this porcelain unique.

Deep black porcelain with striking white veining — a high-contrast Marquina marble recreation in heat-proof porcelain.

Optimum Black Marquina delivers the iconic drama of Spanish Nero Marquina marble in porcelain stoneware. Its deep black base is traversed by striking veining in bright white to off-white, with finer threads appearing as translucent soft grey. The veins flow with a random, predominantly diagonal movement, varying from delicate and fine to boldly pronounced, with moderate to dense distribution that creates significant visual movement across the surface. The highly polished finish intensifies the contrast between the jet-black base and bright white veining, with visible reflections adding another layer of depth. As porcelain, this surface handles everything that would damage natural Marquina marble — hot pans, acidic foods, and heavy use — without a trace. The non-porous surface resists staining completely. Manufactured in extra-large 1840 × 3300mm slabs from 100% natural raw materials. Supplied and installed by In2Stone across Hampshire.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Black Marquina

What does Optimum Black Marquina look like?
Black Marquina has a deep black base with striking veining in bright white to off-white. Finer veins appear as translucent soft grey. The pattern flows randomly and diagonally, with veins ranging from delicate threads to bold, pronounced bands. The highly polished finish intensifies the black-and-white contrast, creating a dramatic, high-impact surface.
Does the black surface show marks easily?
Dark polished surfaces do show dust and water spots more readily than lighter colours. However, the dense white veining pattern on Black Marquina helps disguise minor marks compared to a solid black surface. The polished porcelain is extremely easy to clean — a quick wipe with a damp cloth restores the surface instantly.
Can Black Marquina handle acidic foods?
Yes — and this is a major advantage over natural Nero Marquina marble, which is acid-sensitive and can etch from lemon juice, vinegar, or wine. Optimum porcelain is completely impervious to acids. You can use any food or cleaning product on the surface without risk of etching or staining.
What cabinetry creates the best look with Black Marquina?
White or light grey cabinetry creates the classic high-contrast partnership — the white veining in the worktop ties visually to the lighter cabinets. For a bolder, moodier scheme, dark navy or forest green units with brushed gold hardware build on the dramatic character. Avoid overly busy splashbacks that compete with the bold veining.
Is Black Marquina available in different thicknesses?
Yes — Optimum offers 12mm and 20mm thicknesses. The 20mm is the standard worktop choice, providing a substantial feel. The 12mm works well for splashbacks, wall cladding, and as a lighter worktop option in contemporary schemes where a thinner profile is preferred.
★★★★★
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
