The Stone

See the natural beauty of Black Tempest up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this porcelain unique.

Colour:

Charcoal Grey White

Deep charcoal porcelain with swirling grey-white veining — a stormy, dynamic surface with powerful movement.

Optimum Black Tempest lives up to its name with a surface that channels turbulent natural energy. Its deep charcoal grey base is covered by dense, dynamic veining that flows diagonally with significant swirling movement, creating a busy, storm-like pattern across the slab. The veins range from fine threads to broad, undulating bands in a spectrum of lighter grey tones, punctuated by striking bright white accents that create dramatic contrast against the dark backdrop. The honed, matte finish gives Black Tempest a smooth, understated texture that lets the pattern do the talking. As porcelain stoneware, it brings all the practical advantages — completely heat-proof, UV-stable, acid-resistant, and maintenance-free. This is a surface for statement kitchens where conventional marble-effect designs feel too restrained. Manufactured in extra-large 1840 × 3300mm slabs from 100% natural raw materials. Supplied and installed by In2Stone across Hampshire.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Black Tempest

What does Optimum Black Tempest look like?
Black Tempest has a deep charcoal grey base covered with dense, dynamic veining that flows diagonally with significant swirling movement. The veins range from fine threads to broad, undulating bands in lighter grey tones, with striking bright white accents. The matte finish is smooth and understated. The overall effect is stormy and powerful — a genuinely dramatic surface.
How does Black Tempest differ from Black Marquina?
Both are dark surfaces with lighter veining, but the character is very different. Black Marquina has a deeper black base with sharply defined white veining in a classic marble pattern. Black Tempest is charcoal rather than black, with a much busier, more swirling pattern that includes a wide range of grey tones alongside white accents. Tempest is more dynamic; Marquina is more classic.
Is Black Tempest too busy for everyday use?
The busy pattern is actually an advantage in daily use — it disguises crumbs, water marks, and minor surface wear far better than a simpler design. The varied grey tones and swirling movement keep the eye moving, so small marks don't stand out. It's a practical choice as well as a dramatic one.
Can I use Black Tempest for an outdoor kitchen?
Yes — Optimum porcelain is fully UV-stable and frost-resistant. The colours and pattern won't fade under prolonged sunlight, and the surface is impervious to moisture. Black Tempest's dramatic character makes it a particularly strong choice for outdoor entertaining spaces and barbecue areas.
What thickness should I choose for Black Tempest?
The 20mm thickness is the standard choice for worktops — it provides a substantial, solid feel. The 12mm option works well for splashbacks, wall cladding, and as a lighter worktop profile in contemporary designs. In2Stone can advise on the best option during your templating consultation.
★★★★★
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
