The Stone

See the natural beauty of Portland up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this porcelain unique.

Style:

Stone Effect Concrete Effect Matte Finish Natural

Light warm taupe porcelain with soft limestone mottling — a matte, understated surface with earthy natural character.

Optimum Portland references the familiar warmth of Portland stone and cement in a refined porcelain interpretation. Its light warm taupe base shifts subtly towards pale earthy beige in places, with moderate cloud-like mottling and gentle tonal variations — some patches lighter and almost off-white, others carrying a gentle warm brown-grey. Very fine thread-like lines occasionally meander across the surface, blending into the broader tonal movement. The matte, honed finish reveals a subtle, uniform granular texture that gives Portland a tactile, authentic quality. It sits between the concrete and limestone categories — more structured than the Concrete collection but less formally patterned than the marble designs. Portland is a versatile, foundational surface for kitchens that prioritise natural materials and calm aesthetics. As porcelain stoneware, it's heat-proof, UV-stable, and completely maintenance-free. Manufactured in extra-large 1840 × 3300mm slabs from 100% natural raw materials. Supplied and installed by In2Stone across Hampshire.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Portland

What does Optimum Portland look like?
Portland has a light warm taupe base with subtle shifts towards earthy beige, featuring moderate cloud-like mottling and gentle tonal variations. Some areas are lighter, almost off-white; others carry warm brown-grey tones. Fine thread-like lines occasionally meander across the surface. The matte finish has a uniform granular texture. It reads as a refined natural stone or cement surface.
Is Portland a concrete-effect or stone-effect design?
It sits between the two. Portland references both Portland cement and Portland limestone — the warm taupe colour and granular texture suggest natural stone, while the cloud-like mottling has a raw, industrial quality. It's more structured and warmer than the Concrete collection designs, but less formally patterned than the marble surfaces.
What kitchen styles suit Portland?
Portland's versatile, neutral character works across many styles — Scandinavian, transitional, farmhouse, coastal, and warm contemporary kitchens all benefit from its calm, earthy tone. It pairs well with natural timber, warm metals, natural stone flooring, and linen textures. It's also effective in commercial settings like cafe counters and retail displays.
How does Portland compare to Pietra Di Fez?
Both are matte, natural stone-effect designs with earthy tones, but they differ in texture and depth. Pietra Di Fez is a darker mid-grey with more pronounced mottling and granular speckling — it's bolder and more textured. Portland is lighter, warmer, and gentler — a more understated, calming presence in the kitchen.
Can Portland be used for flooring as well as worktops?
Yes — porcelain is extremely hard-wearing and is widely used for flooring. Using the same material on floors and worktops creates a cohesive, continuous aesthetic. The matte, granular finish of Portland provides good underfoot grip. The 12mm thickness works well for flooring applications.
★★★★★
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
