The Stone

See the natural beauty of Calypso up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this quartzite unique.

Colour:

Gold Cream Green

Warm golden-honey bands flow with sage-green veining — a sun-kissed Brazilian quartzite from the Macaúbas deposits.

Calypso quartzite brings the warmth of Brazilian sunshine into your home. Quarried from the renowned Macaúbas and Brumado districts of Bahia, Brazil, this inviting stone features flowing horizontal bands of golden-honey, warm amber, and soft sage-green creating a beautifully natural, almost wood-like movement across the polished surface. Subtle grey-green veining threads through the warm golden base, with areas of creamy white and oxidised copper-brown adding depth and organic character. Also known as Calypso Gold, this quartzite takes its name from the enchanting Greek sea nymph — and there's something genuinely enchanting about its warm, earthy palette. At Mohs 7, it's harder than granite and less porous than many natural stones, delivering excellent practical performance alongside its distinctive beauty. The horizontal, flowing movement gives it an organic quality that engineered materials simply cannot replicate. At In2stone, we recommend Calypso for customers who want natural stone warmth in their kitchen. The golden tones pair beautifully with timber cabinetry, warm-toned metals, and earthy colour schemes. Our stonemasons work with the directional flow of the stone to create worktop installations that feel like a natural extension of the stone's own geological rhythm.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Calypso

What colour is Calypso quartzite?
Calypso features a warm palette of golden-honey, amber, and soft sage-green arranged in flowing horizontal bands. Subtle grey-green veining threads through the golden base, with creamy white and oxidised copper-brown accents adding depth. The overall effect is warm, inviting, and naturally organic.
What kitchen styles does Calypso quartzite complement?
Calypso's warm golden tones are perfect for rustic, country, Mediterranean, and warm contemporary kitchens. It pairs beautifully with natural timber cabinetry, warm brass or copper hardware, and earthy wall tones. The horizontal flowing movement adds character without overwhelming the design.
How hard is Calypso quartzite?
Mohs 7 — harder than granite. Calypso is also less porous than many natural stones, giving it excellent stain resistance when sealed. It handles heat, scratches, and acidic kitchen spills with ease, making it a genuinely practical choice despite its warm, exotic appearance.
Where is Calypso quartzite quarried?
Calypso quartzite comes from the Macaúbas and Brumado quarrying districts in Bahia, Brazil. Also known as Calypso Gold, the stone is named after the enchanting Greek sea nymph Calypso. Bahia is one of Brazil's most important quartzite-producing states.
Does Calypso quartzite's golden colour fade?
No. The golden-honey colouring is a natural mineral property permanently embedded in the stone's crystalline structure. Unlike engineered surfaces containing resins, natural quartzite is completely UV-stable — the warm golden tones will remain vibrant indefinitely, even in south-facing or conservatory kitchens.
★★★★★
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
