The Stone

Style:

Plain

Pure, solid black with a very fine volcanic grain — the deepest, most commanding dark surface in the Neolith range.

Neolith Basalt Black delivers darkness in its most absolute, uncompromising form. Its near-solid black surface carries a very fine volcanic grain that adds subtle tactile depth without introducing visible pattern or colour variation — this is a surface of pure chromatic intensity, designed for spaces where bold, atmospheric design takes priority. Available in Satin finish across all four thickness options, Basalt Black creates dramatic contrast with pale cabinetry and warm metallics, or builds an enveloping, cave-like atmosphere when used in all-dark schemes. The Satin finish provides practical advantages over polished black surfaces, being significantly more forgiving of fingerprints and watermarks in daily kitchen use.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Basalt Black

What does Neolith Basalt Black look like?
Neolith Basalt Black is a near-solid black surface with a very fine volcanic grain that adds subtle tactile depth without introducing visible pattern. This is darkness in its most absolute, uncompromising form — pure chromatic intensity designed for spaces where bold, atmospheric design takes priority. The fine grain texture prevents the surface from feeling sterile or synthetic.
How practical is a black worktop for daily kitchen use?
Basalt Black is finished in Satin, which is significantly more practical for daily use than a polished black surface. The soft matte finish is far more forgiving of fingerprints, watermarks, and everyday dust than high-gloss equivalents. While any very dark surface will show more contrast with light-coloured crumbs and debris than a mid-toned surface, regular wiping keeps it looking impeccable. The Satin finish is specifically engineered for practical daily performance.
How does Basalt Black compare to Nero?
Both are solid black surfaces, but from different collections with different characters. Basalt Black from the Fusion collection has a fine volcanic grain texture that gives it a natural, geological quality. Nero from the Colorfeel collection is a purer, flatter black without visible texture. Additionally, Nero offers both Satin and Silk finishes, while Basalt Black is exclusively Satin. Choose Basalt Black for a textured, natural feel; Nero for absolute smooth purity.
Is Basalt Black suitable for a kitchen island?
Basalt Black makes a stunning kitchen island, creating a dramatic focal point that anchors the room with commanding visual presence. The large, uninterrupted surface of an island shows the fine volcanic grain to its best advantage. Paired with white or light timber cabinetry, brass hardware, and warm lighting, a Basalt Black island creates interiors of extraordinary contrast and sophistication.
Can I place hot pans on Basalt Black?
Yes. Neolith Basalt Black, like all Neolith surfaces, is heat resistant to well over 300°C. You can place hot pans, baking trays, and casserole dishes directly from the oven or hob onto the surface without any risk of scorching, discolouration, or thermal shock. This is a significant practical advantage over engineered quartz and many other worktop materials.
★★★★★
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
