Dark volcanic grey with a fine mineral grain — the versatile, design-friendly alternative to solid black.

Neolith Basalt Grey occupies the compelling middle ground between dramatic black and neutral mid-grey. Its dark charcoal tone carries the same fine volcanic grain as its Black sibling, but the slightly lighter shade adds versatility and warmth that pure black surfaces cannot always achieve. This is a surface that works in a wider range of design contexts — from contemporary urban kitchens to warm, textured Scandinavian-inspired spaces — while still delivering the visual weight and presence that dark surfaces command. Available in Satin finish across all four thickness options, Basalt Grey offers the perfect balance of drama, adaptability, and practical daily performance.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Basalt Grey

What does Neolith Basalt Grey look like?
Neolith Basalt Grey is a dark charcoal surface with the same fine volcanic grain texture as Basalt Black, but in a slightly lighter shade that adds warmth and versatility. The result is a surface that delivers the visual weight and presence of a dark stone without the absolute intensity of true black. It sits in the compelling middle ground where darkness meets warmth.
How does Basalt Grey differ from Basalt Black?
The two surfaces share identical texture, finish, and thickness options — the difference lies entirely in tone. Basalt Black is a near-absolute black; Basalt Grey is a noticeably warmer, lighter dark charcoal. In practical terms, Basalt Grey is more versatile across a wider range of design contexts and slightly more forgiving in daily use, as its lighter shade shows less contrast with everyday dust and watermarks.
What design schemes suit Basalt Grey?
Basalt Grey is exceptionally versatile, complementing contemporary urban, warm Scandinavian, modern rustic, and industrial design schemes. It pairs beautifully with both warm and cool tones — light oak and brass for warmth, or concrete and brushed steel for an industrial edge. Its position between grey and black makes it adaptable to virtually any design direction.
Is Basalt Grey available in all thicknesses?
Yes. Basalt Grey is available in all four standard Neolith thicknesses: 3mm for wall cladding, 6mm for splashbacks and vertical surfaces, 12mm for slimline worktops, and 20mm for substantial worktops and islands. This full range makes it suitable for creating cohesive material flows throughout a kitchen, using the same surface across worktops, splashbacks, and feature walls.
Does Basalt Grey stain from common kitchen spills?
No. Basalt Grey is completely non-porous and will not stain from any common kitchen substance, including red wine, coffee, tea, turmeric, beetroot, olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice, and soy sauce. Unlike natural dark stones such as basalt and slate, which can be porous and susceptible to staining, Neolith's sintered surface provides zero absorption and complete stain immunity.

"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
