The Stone Behind the Effect

Natural quartzite is formed when sandstone is subjected to extreme heat and pressure deep within the earth’s crust. The silica grains in the sandstone recrystallise and fuse together, creating one of the hardest natural stones available — harder even than granite.

But quartzite’s real attraction isn’t its hardness. It’s the extraordinary colours and patterns that geological forces produce during the metamorphic process. Iron oxides create rich pinks, oranges, and reds. Manganese produces deep purples and blue-greys. And the recrystallisation process creates flowing, translucent veining that seems to glow from within the stone.

Directional Flow

Quartzite veining tends to flow in broad, sweeping movements rather than the fine, branching patterns typical of marble. This creates a sense of geological forces at work — the stone looks like it was shaped by immense pressure, which of course it was.
