The Stone

See the natural beauty of African Tapestry up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this granite unique.

A dramatic, exotic granite from South Africa, where sweeping bands of sandy gold, olive grey, and charcoal flow like a vibrant geological landscape.

African Tapestry is a truly dramatic and exotic granite, where nature's artistry unfolds across the slab in sweeping, organic bands. You’ll discover warm sandy gold merging with tranquil olive grey and deep charcoal tones, all flowing together to create an undulating, landscape-like pattern. Look closer, and fine black veining along with delicate mineral deposits add intricate detail, ensuring that each visually dynamic slab makes a unique, powerful statement as the centrepiece of your space.

This remarkable stone hails from the ancient, mineral-rich geological formations of South Africa. As an intrusive igneous rock, African Tapestry formed deep within the Earth's crust over millions of years, as molten magma slowly cooled and solidified. This slow process allowed large, interlocking crystals of quartz and feldspar to grow, creating granite's characteristic coarse-grained texture and exceptional durability, while the specific accessory minerals present contribute to its stunning sandy gold, olive grey, and charcoal palette.

African Tapestry is more than just a surface; it's a conversation starter, perfect for kitchen worktops, island units, or a striking splashback. Its inherent hardness (Mohs 6-7) and low porosity mean it stands up exceptionally well to the demands of a busy home, resisting scratches, heat, and stains when properly sealed. We pour our passion into hand-templating and installing every African Tapestry slab, ensuring the sweeping patterns are perfectly aligned and edged. At In2Stone, we believe in honest pricing for luxury results, giving you a truly unique and durable worktop that reflects our commitment to craftsmanship and care.

Frequently Asked

Questions About African Tapestry

What gives African Tapestry granite its distinctive "landscape-like" appearance?
African Tapestry granite is characterised by sweeping, organic bands of warm sandy gold, olive grey, and charcoal tones that flow across the slab. This unique visual effect, combined with fine black veining and intricate mineral deposits, creates an undulating, landscape-like pattern, making each slab truly one-of-a-kind.
What kitchen styles would best complement the dramatic patterns of African Tapestry granite?
Its visually dynamic nature makes African Tapestry a fantastic choice for kitchens seeking a bold, exotic focal point. It pairs beautifully with contemporary or modern rustic designs, particularly those with natural wood cabinetry, cream or dark grey units, or brushed metallic accents that echo its earthy tones.
How durable is African Tapestry granite, and what care does it require?
As a granite, African Tapestry is exceptionally durable. It has a Mohs hardness of 6-7, making it highly resistant to scratches, heat, and everyday impacts. We recommend sealing it upon installation and periodic re-sealing to maintain its low porosity and stain resistance. Regular cleaning with a mild, pH-neutral cleaner is all that's needed for daily care.
Where is African Tapestry granite quarried, and what contributes to its unique colours?
African Tapestry granite originates from South Africa. Its captivating palette of sandy gold, olive grey, and charcoal, along with fine black veining, is a result of the specific mineral composition—primarily quartz and feldspar, along with accessory minerals—that slowly crystallised deep within the Earth's crust over geological time.
How does African Tapestry granite compare to engineered stone alternatives in terms of uniqueness and value?
Unlike engineered stones, African Tapestry offers an unparalleled, one-of-a-kind pattern with natural variations that cannot be replicated. While granite is a premium natural material, In2Stone offers honest pricing for its inherent durability, unique aesthetics, and the long-term value it adds to your home, making it a luxurious yet accessible investment.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
