Style:

Sparkle Exotic Polished

Premium Norwegian larvikite from Larvik — a deep charcoal field alive with dense silver-white sparkling mineral points.

Lundhs Blue is the flagship stone of the Lundhs range, quarried from the Bjørndalen quarry near Larvik in Vestfold county, Norway. The slab presents a deep charcoal to near-black base with cool undertones, densely patterned with a uniform distribution of small to medium-sized bright white and silver reflective specks that create a significant shimmering effect across the entire surface. There is no veining or directional movement — just a consistent, sparkling granularity that gives the stone its celebrated galaxy-like appearance, as though light has been captured within the stone itself.

This is larvikite of the highest commercial grade — a feldspar-rich igneous rock that the Lundhs family has been quarrying sustainably since the 1930s. The silver-white sparkle comes from feldspar crystals exhibiting schillerisation, a light-interference effect within the mineral's internal layered structure. Under the polished finish, these crystals catch light from every angle, creating a surface that is never truly static. The stone's density and hardness are exceptional — Lundhs classify their larvikites as virtually non-porous, requiring less sealing than almost any other natural worktop material.

In2Stone considers Lundhs Blue the pinnacle of dark worktop materials. It offers the drama of a deep, dark surface with the life and movement that only natural mineral sparkle can provide. Under kitchen downlights, the effect is genuinely captivating. Pair with white or light grey cabinetry for maximum contrast, or with matte black units and stainless steel for an all-dark scheme that lets the sparkle become the room's defining detail.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Lundhs Blue

What causes the sparkle in Lundhs Blue?
The sparkle comes from schillerisation — a light-interference effect within the feldspar crystals that make up the bulk of the stone. Light enters the crystal, refracts between internal layers, and exits as a bright silver-white flash. The polished surface exposes thousands of these crystals, creating the stone's characteristic all-over shimmer.
Is Lundhs Blue the same as Labrador Antique?
They are both Norwegian larvikites from the same broader geological region, but they come from different quarries and display different visual characters. Labrador Antique has a warm brown base with teal-blue iridescent flecks. Lundhs Blue has a dark charcoal base with dense silver-white sparkle. They are distinct stones with different colour palettes.
How does Lundhs Blue compare to engineered quartz sparkle surfaces?
Engineered quartz surfaces use added mirror or glass chips to create artificial sparkle. Lundhs Blue's shimmer is entirely natural — produced by the stone's own feldspar crystals. The visual effect is more complex and varied because natural mineral crystals refract light differently at every angle. Lundhs Blue also offers superior heat resistance and UV stability.
Where exactly is Lundhs Blue quarried?
Lundhs Blue comes from the Bjørndalen quarry near Larvik in Vestfold county, southeastern Norway. This specific quarry is operated by the Lundhs family — a multigenerational Norwegian stone company with over 80 years of quarrying heritage and some of the highest environmental and quality standards in the global natural stone industry.
Does Lundhs Blue granite need sealing?
Lundhs larvikites have exceptionally low porosity — virtually non-porous according to the manufacturer's technical data. This means they require less sealing than most natural stones. However, In2Stone recommends annual sealing as a sensible precaution, particularly in kitchen environments where oil, wine, and acidic spills occur regularly.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
