Premium Norwegian larvikite from Klaastad with deep forest-green tones and brilliant icy-blue iridescent crystals.

Lundhs Emerald is the most visually dramatic stone in the Lundhs range, quarried from the Klaastad quarry near Larvik in Vestfold county, Norway. The slab presents a very dark charcoal base heavily permeated with deep forest green and dark teal tones, creating a rich, saturated foundation. A dense, chaotic pattern of interlocking irregular shapes dominates the surface, edged and traversed by fine to medium lines of warm golden-brown that create a fractured, geological appearance. Scattered randomly throughout are striking iridescent patches of bright icy blue and silvery-white — flat, reflective crystalline inclusions that flash and shift with changing light.

This is larvikite at its most expressive. The Klaastad quarry produces stone with particularly strong iridescent character, and the Lundhs family's meticulous block selection ensures that only material with the best colour and crystal quality reaches the market. The stone is exceptionally hard and dense — virtually non-porous according to Lundhs' technical specifications — and the polished finish enhances every reflective inclusion to maximum effect. The combination of the dark green-teal base and bright blue iridescence creates a colour palette that feels both ancient and otherworldly.

In2Stone positions Lundhs Emerald as one of the most exclusive worktop materials in our range. It demands a kitchen setting that respects its extraordinary visual character — simple cabinetry in white, charcoal, or dark timber, with hardware in brushed nickel or matte black. Under kitchen downlights, the iridescent patches come alive, shifting colour with every change of viewing angle. This is a stone that rewards attention and never becomes ordinary.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Lundhs Emerald

What gives Lundhs Emerald its green colour?
The deep forest green and teal tones come from the concentration of pyroxene and olivine minerals within the larvikite's crystal matrix. These green-forming minerals, combined with the dark feldspar base, create the stone's characteristic rich, saturated colour. The warm golden-brown lines are likely formed by iron-oxide minerals along natural fracture planes.
How does Lundhs Emerald compare to Lundhs Blue?
Lundhs Blue has a dark charcoal base with dense silver-white sparkle. Lundhs Emerald has a dark green-teal base with larger, more dramatic icy-blue iridescent crystal patches and warm golden-brown fracture lines. Emerald is the more visually complex and dramatic of the two, while Blue is more uniform and restrained.
Is Lundhs Emerald difficult to maintain?
No — despite its visual complexity, the maintenance is straightforward. Lundhs' anorthosite is virtually non-porous, so it requires less sealing than most natural stones. Daily cleaning with warm water and a pH-neutral soap, and occasional sealing as a precaution, keeps it in excellent condition. The polished surface wipes clean easily.
Where is the Klaastad quarry?
The Klaastad quarry is located near Larvik in Vestfold county, southeastern Norway. It is operated by the Lundhs family as part of their sustainable quarrying operation. The specific geological conditions at Klaastad produce larvikite with particularly vivid green colouration and strong iridescent crystal formations.
Can Lundhs Emerald be used for a statement splashback?
Absolutely — and the result can be extraordinary. A bookmatched pair of Lundhs Emerald slabs as a full-height splashback creates a symmetrical pattern of green tones and iridescent crystals that becomes a genuine work of natural art. The stone's heat resistance makes it well-suited to installation behind a hob.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
