Terrazzo Exotic Polished

Brazilian conglomerate granite with bold multi-coloured stone fragments embedded in a dark charcoal matrix.

Marinace Palladium is not a typical granite — it is a sedimentary conglomerate that has been metamorphosed under immense pressure, creating a surface unlike anything else in the natural stone world. Quarried in Brazil, the slab presents a very dark charcoal to black matrix densely embedded with a mosaic of multi-coloured irregular fragments ranging from fine speckles to bold shapes several centimetres across. Prominent inclusions in dark grey, bluish-grey, warm reddish-brown, and dark terracotta are scattered throughout, alongside bright white and creamy off-white flecks. Some larger fragments reveal subtle internal striations and swirling patterns — each one a pebble or cobble with its own geological history, cemented together by nature over millions of years.

The visual effect is often compared to terrazzo, but Marinace Palladium predates any human flooring by several hundred million years. Each fragment was once a separate stone — rolled smooth by ancient rivers, deposited in a basin, buried under layers of sediment, and eventually compressed into solid rock. The polished surface reveals every fragment's individual character while presenting a cohesive, wearable whole. Despite its complex origins, the stone performs like granite: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and strong structural integrity.

In2Stone stocks Marinace Palladium for clients who want a conversation piece. Every slab tells a visible geological story — the fragments are real, individual stones, not manufactured chips in a resin binder. It works best as a feature island or bar top where the mosaic composition can be fully appreciated. Pair with simple dark cabinetry to let the stone's extraordinary composition take centre stage.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Marinace Palladium

Is Marinace Palladium actually granite?
Geologically, it is a metamorphosed sedimentary conglomerate — ancient river pebbles and cobbles cemented together under extreme pressure over millions of years. It is commercially classified as granite for trade purposes. Despite the different geological origin, its kitchen performance — hardness, heat resistance, durability — is fully comparable to true granite.
What are the coloured fragments in Marinace Palladium?
Each fragment is an individual ancient stone — a pebble or cobble that was once part of a different rock formation. They have been naturally collected, smoothed by water, deposited in a sedimentary basin, and compressed into solid rock over hundreds of millions of years. The variety of colours reflects the different mineral compositions of each original stone.
How does Marinace Palladium compare to engineered terrazzo?
While visually similar, they are fundamentally different materials. Engineered terrazzo uses manufactured chips set in cement or resin. Marinace Palladium's fragments are natural stones cemented together by geological processes over millions of years. Granite offers superior heat resistance, scratch hardness, and UV stability compared to resin-bound terrazzo.
Where is Marinace Palladium quarried?
Marinace Palladium comes from Brazil, which produces some of the most geologically unusual natural stones in the world. The ancient conglomerate formations in Brazil date back hundreds of millions of years, and the quarrying process must handle the stone carefully to preserve the integrity of the embedded fragments.
Does the varied composition affect the stone's durability?
No — the metamorphic pressure that compressed these fragments together over geological time has created a solid, cohesive mass. The stone performs as a single, unified material for practical purposes. Annual sealing, the same care routine as any granite, and normal kitchen use will not compromise its structural integrity.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
