The Stone

See the natural beauty of Moon Agate up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this granite unique.

Colour:

Brown Cream Grey

Brazilian exotic granite with concentric agate-like banding in terracotta, cream, grey, and charcoal tones.

Moon Agate granite is a geological spectacle — a Brazilian exotic that abandons the conventional granite playbook entirely. There is no single dominant base colour. Instead, the slab presents a rich interplay of deep reddish-brown terracotta, creamy off-white, cool light grey, and dark charcoal grey, arranged in dense, organic, concentric banding that undulates and layers across the entire surface. Some areas exhibit a subtle translucency, adding another dimension to an already visually complex stone. The veining varies from fine thread-like lines to medium bands and broad irregular masses, creating a surface that looks almost geological in cross-section.

The name is apt — Moon Agate genuinely resembles the concentric banding found in agate gemstones, scaled up to worktop proportions. This is a stone that was formed under unusual geological conditions, and the result is something that cannot be replicated by any engineered surface. The polished finish enhances every tonal transition, and despite its exotic appearance, the stone carries granite's full performance profile: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and strong structural integrity.

In2Stone positions Moon Agate as one of the most visually extraordinary natural stones in our collection. It demands to be the centrepiece of the room — a kitchen island, a feature bar top, or a statement section where the concentric banding can be fully appreciated. Simple, monochromatic cabinetry provides the best backdrop. This is a stone for clients who want something genuinely one-of-a-kind.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Moon Agate

What creates the agate-like banding in Moon Agate granite?
The concentric banding formed during the stone's geological creation, likely involving rhythmic crystallisation processes where different minerals precipitated in layers over an extended period. The result is the layered, undulating pattern of terracotta, cream, grey, and charcoal that gives Moon Agate its distinctive appearance.
Is Moon Agate granite suitable as a full kitchen worktop?
It depends on the kitchen size and your design intent. Moon Agate's visual intensity works best as a feature element — an island, bar top, or statement section — rather than covering every surface. In a smaller kitchen, using it for the entire worktop can feel overwhelming. In larger spaces with simple cabinetry, it can work beautifully throughout.
Does Moon Agate granite vary significantly between slabs?
Enormously. The concentric banding pattern and colour distribution differ dramatically from slab to slab — arguably more than almost any other natural stone. Personal slab selection is absolutely essential with Moon Agate. In2Stone strongly recommends viewing your specific slab before committing to purchase.
Where is Moon Agate granite quarried?
Moon Agate comes from Brazil, which produces many of the world's most visually exotic natural stones. Brazil's ancient geological formations — some dating back over a billion years — create the unusual mineral conditions that produce stones with this level of visual complexity and tonal range.
How do you care for such an exotic-looking granite?
Exactly the same as any other granite — the maintenance routine does not change based on the stone's visual complexity. Annual sealing with a quality impregnating sealer, daily cleaning with warm water and pH-neutral soap, and prompt blotting of dark spills. The exotic appearance is purely visual; the stone's physical properties are standard granite.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
