Speckled Exotic Polished

Indian red granite from Karnataka with a bold terracotta base and dense charcoal-and-crystal speckling.

Rosso Multicolour granite is quarried from the Kanakapura area near Bangalore in Karnataka, South India — a significant granite-producing region with ancient geological formations that yield some of the most vividly coloured stones on the market. The slab presents a dominant deep warm reddish-brown base resembling terracotta or brick red, thoroughly permeated with irregular clusters and flecks of dark charcoal to black alongside scattered lighter translucent pale grey to off-white crystalline fragments. The pattern is dense and busy with a mottled speckled texture and no directional movement. The polished finish adds a subtle sheen that enhances the vibrancy of the red base.

The 'Rosso' in the name is Italian for red, and the stone delivers on that promise with a bold commitment to warm, fiery tones that few other granites can match. The charcoal and black speckling grounds the vibrant base, preventing it from feeling overwhelming, while the translucent crystalline fragments add sparkle and textural interest. This is granite at its most geological — you can see the individual mineral grains and crystal formations that make up the stone, each contributing to the overall colour and pattern. Performance is standard: Mohs 6–7 hardness, excellent heat resistance, and the dense crystalline composition characteristic of South Indian granites.

In2Stone recommends Rosso Multicolour for clients who want colour and boldness in their kitchen. It works as a powerful accent — a feature island or bar section — surrounded by neutral cabinetry in cream, charcoal, or dark timber. It also pairs unexpectedly well with deep green finishes, where the red-green complementary contrast creates a rich, sophisticated palette.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Rosso Multicolour

How red is Rosso Multicolour granite?
Genuinely red — the base is a deep, warm reddish-brown that reads as terracotta or brick red. This is not a subtle pink or warm beige — it is a committed warm red that will be the dominant colour presence in any kitchen where it is installed. The charcoal speckling moderates the intensity slightly but does not diminish the overall red character.
Where is Kanakapura?
Kanakapura is a town located approximately 55 kilometres south of Bangalore in Karnataka, South India. The surrounding area sits on ancient Precambrian geological formations and is an established source of vividly coloured granites, including red, green, and multi-toned varieties.
What kitchen colours work with red granite?
Neutral backgrounds are essential — cream, off-white, warm grey, or charcoal cabinetry lets the stone speak without competition. Dark timber adds warmth and richness. For a sophisticated complementary scheme, deep green cabinetry alongside Rosso Multicolour creates a dramatic red-green contrast. Avoid other warm or bright colours that might clash.
Is red granite unusual?
Red granite is less common than grey, black, or white varieties but has been used in architecture and interiors for centuries. The red colour comes from a high concentration of potassium feldspar with iron-bearing minerals. India is one of the world's primary sources of high-quality red granites.
Does the colour fade over time?
No. Granite is naturally UV-stable — the mineral colours will not fade, shift, or degrade with age or sunlight exposure. Rosso Multicolour's vibrant red tones will remain consistent throughout the stone's lifetime, making it suitable for conservatories and south-facing kitchens without any colour-change concerns.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
