Sparkle Polished Exotic

Indian black granite from Andhra Pradesh with dense coppery-bronze metallic sparkle across a polished jet-black base.

Star Galaxy granite is quarried from the Chimakurthy area of Prakasam District in Andhra Pradesh, South India — and it is one of the most widely recognised and commercially successful granites in the world. The slab presents a deep rich black base scattered densely with small highly reflective particles in warm coppery-bronze and golden-brown, with some appearing silvery-white or exhibiting a subtle bluish-grey shimmer. The highly polished finish amplifies the sparkling effect, creating a surface that genuinely evokes a night sky full of stars.

Star Galaxy's enduring global popularity is no accident — the combination of a pure jet-black base with metallic bronze sparkle creates an effect that no other natural stone replicates. The sparkling particles are bronzite — a magnesium-iron silicate mineral that forms metallic, reflective crystals within the dark gabbro matrix. Despite being commercially classified as granite, Star Galaxy is technically a gabbro — a closely related igneous rock with a darker mineral composition. The distinction is academic for kitchen use; it performs with the same hardness, heat resistance, and structural density as conventional granite. The Chimakurthy quarries have supplied Star Galaxy to the international market for decades, and consistency remains exceptional.

In2Stone recommends Star Galaxy for clients who want a luxurious, immediately recognisable dark surface with built-in sparkle. It works in virtually any kitchen style — contemporary, traditional, or transitional — as the jet-black base acts as a neutral anchor while the metallic sparkle adds glamour. It pairs naturally with chrome, brushed gold, and stainless steel hardware.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Star Galaxy

What creates the sparkle in Star Galaxy granite?
The sparkling particles are bronzite — a magnesium-iron silicate mineral that forms small, highly reflective metallic crystals within the stone. These bronzite inclusions catch and reflect light, creating the characteristic star-like sparkle that gives the stone its name.
Is Star Galaxy technically a granite?
Commercially it is classified and sold as granite, but geologically it is a gabbro — a related igneous rock with a darker mineral composition and less quartz than true granite. For practical purposes, the distinction is irrelevant — it performs with the same hardness, heat resistance, and durability.
Where exactly is Star Galaxy quarried?
Star Galaxy comes specifically from the Chimakurthy area of Prakasam District in Andhra Pradesh, South India. This is the primary global source, and the quarries there have supplied the international market for decades with remarkable consistency.
Does Star Galaxy show fingerprints?
The jet-black polished surface can show fingerprints and water marks under directional lighting. This is the trade-off with any dark polished surface. Regular wiping with a microfibre cloth keeps the surface pristine. A leathered finish is available for clients who prefer reduced fingerprint visibility.
How consistent is Star Galaxy between slabs?
Very consistent — the uniform distribution of bronzite sparkle across the black base remains remarkably similar from slab to slab. This makes Star Galaxy one of the most predictable natural stones to specify, reducing concerns about slab-to-slab variation in multi-slab installations.
★★★★★
"We decided to get bespoke granite work tops for our new kitchen and have to say that we are over the moon with them. From the outset, Ian was very professional when selecting the stone, he listened to what we wanted, went through all of the possibilities that we could have for our worktops and went through the process in detail once we had made a decision. The templateing and fitting was carried out by an incredibly professional and helpful team run by Kev, who knew exactly what they were doing and just got on and made my kitchen look amazing. I would highly recommend In2stone for a helpful, knowledgeable and professional service from start to finish."
