The Stone

See the natural beauty of Bleu de Savoie up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this marble unique.

An exceptionally rare French Alpine marble from a single quarry with ethereal blue-grey tones

Bleu de Savoie is an exceptionally rare crystalline marble quarried from a single quarry in the Savoy Alps of eastern France — one of only a handful of French marbles still in active production. Its pale blue-grey surface is woven with delicate white and silver veins that create a soft, misty, almost ethereal quality reminiscent of the Alpine landscape from which it is born. The distinctive blue-grey tones are genuine rather than a trick of the light — this is a truly blue-toned marble. Extracted from its solitary Alpine quarry, Bleu de Savoie is available in limited quantities, making it one of the most exclusive marbles on the European market. It is traded by leading Italian stone houses including Margraf and Ziche, underscoring its premium positioning among the world's finest natural stones. As a kitchen worktop, it offers something genuinely rare — authentic French Alpine heritage combined with a colour palette that no other marble can replicate. Requires regular sealing and gentle care.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Bleu de Savoie

Why is Bleu de Savoie marble so rare?
Bleu de Savoie is extracted from a single quarry in the Savoy Alps of eastern France. With only one quarry in production, availability is inherently limited. Very few French marble quarries remain active, making this one of the most exclusive marbles on the European market.
What makes the colour of Bleu de Savoie unique?
Bleu de Savoie features genuine blue-grey tones — not the blue from mineral inclusions like sodalite, but a natural grey with almost blue shades that come from the stone's crystalline structure and mineral composition. The delicate white veining enhances the cool, ethereal quality.
Where exactly is Bleu de Savoie quarried?
Bleu de Savoie is quarried in the Savoy Alps of eastern France, in the historic Savoie department. This Alpine region is known for its challenging quarrying conditions — the remote mountain location and harsh winters limit extraction periods and production volumes.
Is Bleu de Savoie the same type of stone as Italian grey marbles?
While it shares visual similarities with Italian grey marbles like Bardiglio, Bleu de Savoie is a distinctly French Alpine marble with its own unique crystalline structure and colour characteristics. Its blue-grey tones are subtly different from the warmer grey of Italian Bardiglio varieties.
Which companies trade Bleu de Savoie marble?
Bleu de Savoie is traded by several leading European stone companies including Margraf and Ziche — major Italian stone houses that source premium marbles from across Europe. This prestigious distribution network underscores the stone's premium positioning among the finest natural stones.

Clearly attentive to detail, accurate work; it's a perfect fit. 3) Kev and Gav came to fit. Very accommodating. Worked cheerfully around obstacles I had thrown in their path.
