The Stone

See the natural beauty of Green up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this onyx unique.

Colour:

Green Cream Brown

Ethereal olive and sage swirl through this translucent onyx like watercolour on silk — nature's own jade, captured in luminous stone.

Green Onyx embodies the serene depth of a forest pool frozen in translucent stone. Soft olive-green and sage tones flow in fluid, cloud-like formations across the polished surface, threaded with delicate russet-brown veining that adds organic complexity to every square centimetre. Luminous patches of pale mint and white emerge where the stone thins, creating a jade-like quality of exceptional depth and natural elegance that is utterly mesmerising in person. This is the onyx variety that most clearly demonstrates the material's famous translucency — when backlit, Green Onyx glows with an unearthly emerald radiance that transforms any surface or wall into a living, breathing artwork of natural light. Quarried in Pakistan's Balochistan province and Iran, this banded calcite draws its distinctive palette from trace copper and iron impurities captured during millennia of slow mineral deposition. In2stone's craftsmen handle this precious stone with the reverence it deserves, ensuring every cut preserves and enhances the flowing formations that make each slab a unique masterwork.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Green

What gives Green Onyx its distinctive colour?
The olive-green and sage tones come from trace minerals — primarily copper and iron compounds — captured within the calcium carbonate as it was deposited by mineral-rich water over thousands of years. The varying concentrations of these impurities create the beautiful gradation from deep olive through to pale mint that characterises this stone.
Is Green Onyx particularly well-suited to backlighting?
Exceptionally so. Green Onyx has some of the highest translucency of any onyx variety, and when backlit, the green tones transform into a luminous emerald glow that is genuinely breathtaking. The effect is most dramatic in splashbacks and feature walls where the full slab is illuminated, creating what many clients describe as a living stained-glass window.
Does Green Onyx change colour over time?
The stone itself is remarkably colour-stable. However, like all natural stone, prolonged direct UV exposure can subtly alter tones over years. For indoor applications, which represent the vast majority of onyx installations, colour change is negligible. Regular sealing protects against surface-level discolouration from absorbed liquids.
Where is Green Onyx quarried?
Green Onyx is primarily quarried in Pakistan's Balochistan province, near the Chagai mountains, and in Iran, particularly around the Kerman and Kurdistan provinces. Each quarry produces slightly different tonal variations, from the deeper saturated greens of Pakistani stone to the lighter, more veined patterns of Iranian varieties.
Can Green Onyx be used for a splashback?
Absolutely — splashbacks are one of the finest applications for Green Onyx. As a vertical surface, it avoids the wear and tear of a horizontal worktop, and the proximity to under-cabinet lighting makes it easy to add backlighting. The result is a wall of luminous green stone that transforms the entire kitchen aesthetic.
★★★★★
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
