The Stone

See the natural beauty of Rainbow Vent Cut up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this onyx unique.

Colour:

Green Pink Brown

Intimate parallel waves of peach, sage, and copper-rust — the artful cross-section of Rainbow Onyx revealing even finer geological detail.

Rainbow Vent Cut Onyx reveals the intimate inner workings of the Rainbow Onyx family: cut perpendicular to the natural banding (the vent-cut or cross-cut technique), this stone showcases tightly layered diagonal bands of peach, sage green, slate grey, cream, and copper-rust in a remarkably fine, close-up pattern. Where standard Rainbow Onyx presents broad sweeping bands, the vent cut reveals the micro-detail — each colour stripe flowing in elegant parallel waves that create a richly textured tapestry of warm and cool earth tones at a more intimate scale. The result is a surface with extraordinary visual density, every square centimetre alive with fine parallel lines of contrasting colour that shimmer under changing light. Backlit, the vent-cut pattern produces a uniquely delicate illumination where each fine band glows individually, creating a more detailed and intricate light show than the standard cut. Quarried in Pakistan and Iran, this variant demands exceptional fabrication skill — In2stone's craftsmen align the delicate parallel banding with meticulous precision across joints and edges, maintaining the flowing visual rhythm that defines this remarkable stone.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Rainbow Vent Cut

What is the difference between Rainbow Onyx and Rainbow Vent Cut Onyx?
Both stones come from the same material — the difference is in how the slab is cut from the block. Standard Rainbow Onyx is cross-cut parallel to the banding, revealing broad sweeping colour bands. Vent Cut (also called vein-cut) is cut perpendicular, revealing the same colours but in much tighter, finer parallel stripes. The vent cut produces a more detailed, intimate pattern.
Does the vent cut affect translucency?
The translucency is equivalent, but the visual effect when backlit is different. The finer banding in the vent cut means each individual band glows as a thin line of light, creating a more detailed, almost textile-like illumination. Standard cut Rainbow Onyx produces broader zones of glowing colour. Both effects are spectacular but distinctly different in character.
Is Rainbow Vent Cut Onyx more or less expensive than standard Rainbow Onyx?
They are generally comparable in price, as both come from the same quarry blocks. The vent cut can sometimes command a slight premium because the cutting process yields fewer usable slabs from each block and requires more careful planning to achieve the desired fine-banding pattern. Both are ultra-premium onyx varieties.
What applications best suit the fine banding pattern?
The tight, detailed banding is most appreciated at close viewing distances, making it ideal for bathroom vanity tops, bar tops, and desk surfaces where you sit or stand near the stone. It also excels in splashbacks where the fine parallel lines create a uniquely textured wall of colour behind taps and fittings.
How do fabricators maintain the banding alignment across joints?
In2stone's craftsmen photograph and map the banding pattern of each slab before cutting, then use precision alignment techniques at every joint to ensure the parallel bands flow uninterrupted across seams. With vent-cut stone, even a millimetre of misalignment would be visible, so this stage receives exceptional attention.

"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
