The Stone

See the natural beauty of Jet up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this quartz unique.

Style:

Natural Veined Polished

Dark charcoal grey quartz with wispy lighter veining and visible granular aggregate texture from the Fossil collection.

Quartzforms Jet completes the Fossil collection — named for the glossy black gemstone formed from fossilised wood. The surface presents a very dark charcoal grey base with subtle warm undertones. Fine to medium-fine wispy veining in light grey or off-white is sparsely to moderately distributed with random organic movement. The base itself has a granular texture visible as varying sizes of dark specks and small aggregates throughout. The surface has a subtle sheen suggesting a polished or honed finish. The character is understated yet sophisticated with natural stone quality.

Jet combines three visual elements — dark base, lighter veining, and granular aggregate texture — creating the most complex surface in the Fossil collection. The warm undertones in the charcoal base prevent the darkness from feeling cold or stark. The wispy veining adds organic movement that flows through the granular texture, creating a surface where pattern and texture interact rather than existing independently. The small aggregates visible in the base give Jet a genuinely geological quality — it reads as something formed over millennia rather than manufactured.

In2Stone recommends Jet for clients who want a dark surface with authentic natural stone complexity. The warm charcoal with lighter veining and aggregate texture creates a surface of genuine material richness. White or cream cabinetry provides clean contrast; dark timber creates warm depth. Hardware in brushed nickel or chrome echoes the lighter veining elements.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Jet

What is jet?
Jet is a glossy black gemstone formed from fossilised wood under extreme pressure over millions of years. It has been used in jewellery since prehistoric times. The Quartzforms surface captures jet's dark, warm, organic quality — a material with genuine geological heritage.
What is the aggregate texture?
Varying sizes of dark specks and small aggregates are visible throughout the charcoal base, creating a granular quality. This texture gives Jet authentic geological character — the surface reads as naturally formed rather than manufactured.
How does Jet compare to Baroque?
Both are dark warm-toned surfaces with subtle veining. Baroque (Veined) has a brown-grey base with thread-like veining and concrete-like character. Jet (Fossil) has a warmer charcoal base with wispy veining AND visible aggregate texture — more complex and more geological.
Is the warm undertone significant?
Yes — the warm undertones prevent the dark charcoal from feeling cold or sterile. The warmth connects Jet to natural materials like aged timber, leather, and volcanic stone. It creates intimate rather than stark dark atmospheres.
How practical is a dark surface with texture?
The combination of veining AND aggregate texture makes Jet more practical than plain dark surfaces. Both elements help camouflage fingerprints, water spots, and everyday marks. The subtle sheen finish strikes a good balance between polish and practical matte.
★★★★★
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
