The Stone

See the natural beauty of Ombra up close — the surface texture, colour depth, and veining that make this quartz unique.

Colour:

Brown Dark Grey Grey

Dark warm brown-grey quartz with sparse fine veining and a honed concrete-like finish from the Ecotone Madreterra collection.

Quartzforms Ombra completes the Ecotone Madreterra sustainable collection — the darkest and most grounded of the four colours. The surface presents a dark warm brown-grey base with a honed matte finish that reflects very little light. Sparse fine thread-like veins in a lighter desaturated warm grey move with random curvilinear paths across the surface, some extending diagonally and horizontally. A very fine granular texture prevents the background from reading as a flat solid. The overall character is understated, sophisticated, and closer to polished concrete than traditional stone.

Ombra — Italian for 'shadow' — delivers exactly the mood its name promises. The dark warm brown-grey base occupies the space between concrete and dark stone, creating a surface that feels architectural and modern without the coldness of pure grey. The sparse veining is so restrained it barely registers from viewing distance, adding the faintest whisper of natural movement to what is essentially a calm, dark surface. The matte finish is integral to the character — it gives the surface a tactile, grounded quality that polished dark surfaces cannot replicate. Like its Ecotone Madreterra siblings, Ombra is made from 100% recycled quarry waste aggregates.

In2Stone recommends Ombra for contemporary and industrial-inspired kitchens where dark, understated surfaces set the tone. It pairs powerfully with white or pale grey cabinetry for high contrast, or with dark timber and matt black hardware for a tonal, moody scheme. The dark surface is exceptionally practical — it conceals everyday kitchen wear more effectively than any light-coloured worktop.

Frequently Asked

Questions About Ombra

How dark is Ombra?
Ombra is a dark warm brown-grey — not jet black, but noticeably dark. It sits in the range between dark concrete and charcoal, with a warm brown undertone that softens the darkness. In most kitchen lighting, it reads as a sophisticated dark neutral rather than stark black.
Does Ombra look like concrete?
Yes — the matte finish and fine granular texture give Ombra a strong concrete resemblance. The sparse veining adds a subtle natural element that pure concrete lacks. It offers the industrial aesthetic of polished concrete with the superior performance of engineered quartz — non-porous, stain-resistant, and backed by a 25-year warranty.
Will fingerprints show on a dark matte surface?
Matte finishes actually show fewer fingerprints than polished surfaces. While very dark colours can show water spots and dust more visibly than lighter surfaces, the matte finish on Ombra mitigates this significantly. A quick wipe with a damp cloth keeps the surface looking clean.
Is Ombra the darkest Ecotone Madreterra colour?
Yes — the four Ecotone Madreterra colours run from lightest to darkest: Luce (pale rose-beige), Dune (warm beige), Isola (warm taupe), and Ombra (dark brown-grey). Each is made from 100% recycled quarry waste with the same performance specifications.
What cabinetry colours work with Ombra?
White or pale grey cabinetry creates a clean, high-contrast contemporary look. Dark timber and matt black hardware create a moody, tonal scheme. Avoid very warm yellow or orange cabinetry that might clash with Ombra's cool-warm brown-grey undertone.
★★★★★
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Results - Highly Recommended! I recently had In2stone install new quartz worktops in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was completely stress-free. The team was not only competitively priced but also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. They handled everything seamlessly - removing the existing sink, hob, and old laminate worktops before fitting the new quartz surfaces. The finished worktops are absolutely beautiful and have transformed my kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that I love spending time in. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the attention to detail really shows. I'm a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend In2stone to anyone considering new worktops. Well done to the entire team - you've exceeded my expectations!"
