Azul Macaubas is a legend in the natural stone world. Quarried from the Serra da Vereda formation west of Macaúbas in Bahia, Brazil, this breathtaking quartzite has been prized for over 30 years as one of the most sought-after blue natural stones on Earth. Its vivid cobalt-blue and azure striations flow in sweeping, wave-like bands across a pale white-grey base, creating an oceanic quality that no engineered material can replicate. The extraordinary blue comes from dumortierite — a rare mineral that makes up approximately 15% of the stone's composition alongside 80% quartz. Beyond its legendary beauty, Azul Macaubas delivers outstanding performance. With a Mohs hardness of 7-8, it exceeds even most quartzites in durability. It's completely UV-stable and weather-resistant, making it suitable for outdoor as well as indoor applications. The deposits extend approximately 30 kilometres through the Brazilian landscape, but not all areas are minable — adding to the stone's rarity and prestige.
